Pre-Game Report

What's the old cliche about nothing succeeding like success?  Somebody needs to remind the Chicago media of this news, because apparently only vapid hype is what they respond to.  No Sox Fan honestly expects a five-page spread on our Chicago White Sox winning their fourth game in a row to recapture sole possession of first-place.  It's a good thing too, because it surely isn't going to happen.

The Sox beat Detroit 6-4 Saturday and go for the sweep Sunday afternoon.  If you want winning baseball in Chicago, there is no choice.  And if you're fool enough to pick up the Sun-Times the day after Mark Prior pitches, you have no choice but put your brain in neutral and read the utter nonsense these idiots write, willing shills for the pap the Cubune has convinced them of, pretenders to the concept of healthy competition and the free market economic system.

If you want that crap, get your sports news from the teenage girls lining the foul lines for Mark, Bobby, and Kerry's autographs.  Sheesh...

The Sox offense got started early.  Five runs on five hits n the second inning all came after two strikeouts.  The key blows were a two-rbi double by Kenny Lofton, and a two-run dinger by Ray Durham

It was good to see the bottom of the Sox order getting things started, because it hasn't happened in over a week.  The key to a more consistent offensive attack probably remains with the 7-8-9 hitters, Carlos Lee, Mark Johnson/Sandy Alomar, and Royce Clayton.  The Sox offense was unstoppable when they were getting on base, and stalled badly as they became near-automatic outs.

Gary Glover figured to be the beneficiary of the offense's gift.  He allowed one run in first inning, but had allowed nothing but a inconsequential walk since then.  Then came the fifth inning.

Glover fell apart, pulled from the game after allowing three runs on four hits.  Reliever Kelly Wunsch entered the game with one out and the tying run on third base.  No problem, Sox Fans!  A 6-4-3 double-play grounder got the Sox out of the inning while preserving the lead.

The Sox bullpen was near perfect.  Rocky Biddle threw 1.2 innings of perfect baseball, striking out two.  Damaso Marte followed him, throwing 1.1 innings of hitless baseball, allowing nothing more than a meaningless walk.  Keith Foulke mowed 'em down 1-2-3 in the ninth.

The Twins lose in Anaheim and it's another great day to be a Sox Fan!  The less time you spend reading Chicago's sports pages, the better it will be!
