Three hits.  Three lousy hits all night long.  The Sox lost 9-0 in Fenway Park, but the hell with that.  Let's recount all the Sox offense for the evening.

Be patient.  This won't take too long.

Kenny Lofton started the game beating out an infield single.  Little did Sox Fans know this is as close as we would come to winning the game.  Ray Durham followed by grounding into a double-play.  One hit.

In the fifth inning, Paul Konerko walked to start the inning.  Frank Thomas took care of that "mini-rally" by grounding into a double-play.  That's two hits.

In the seventh, Lofton walked and stole second base.  Durham grounded out, and Lofton went to third.  Next, Lofton was out going home because Magglio Ordonez couldn't get the ball out of the infield.  Still only two hits.

In the ninth, down 9-0, Kenny Lofton doubled.  He got to third when Durham grounded out to complete his magnificent 0 for 4 evening.  Magglio Ordonez grounded out to end the game.  Three hits for the evening.

Todd Ritchie never made it out of the sixth inning.  He was tagged for seven runs on eleven hits.  Matt Ginter looked decent in relief--if you care to know.  Kelly Wunsch gave up a dinger in one inning.  We know you don't care about that.

It remains a mystery what sinister force compelled Jerry Manuel to begin making changes to the league's #1 offense early this month.  However, what is clear is that his chickens have come home to roost.  The entire Sox offense is now slumping, and it wasn't before Manuel got ants in his pants.  Did the man learn nothing in 2001?

Danny Wright goes for the Sox Tuesday.

Ken Lofton

2 for 3 with a walk, and a stolen base.  Our leadoff man accounted for two-thirds of our offensive production.  Hey, no strikeouts either!
