Inside
JERRY'S HEAD

What do Sox Fans really want to hear about this mess of a ballgame?  That Jon Garland walked in two runs?  Or that he didn't make it through five innings again?  Or the offense couldn't score after the fifth inning?  Or that the Sox out-hit the Angels 11-9 but only managed half as many runs, losers 8-4?

We could go on.  Care to hear more?

That Ray Durham's error costs the Sox two unearned runs?  Or Royce Clayton's errorless streak finally coming to an official end?  Or that Angels starter Scott Schoeneweis got his third victory of the year, two of them off the Sox/

Or that Bob Howry fed his gopher?  Or Keith Foulke did the same?  Or that the Sox had nothing to answer in their half of the last three innings but nine consecutive outs to end the game?

Put down the gun, Sox Fans.  It was only one loss!

Manager Jerry Manuel did pinch hit for Royce Clayton in the ninth inning.  Being down four runs, Manuel probably figured Royce wasn't very likely to hit a grand slam leading off the inning.  Maybe Sox Fans weren't the only ones who noticed Royce hasn't been doing much situational hitting?

The quote of the night came from Jon Garland, commenting about the two walks he allowed with the bases loaded.  Jon noted, "It's unexplainable. It's the last thing you want to do and I did it twice in a row."

If you're not careful, you'll be doing it from the bullpen.

2 for 3, including a double, a walk, an rbi, and a run scored.  His fifth inning rbi was the last bit of offense the Sox managed the remainder of the night.
