JERRY'S HEAD

If you're a Sox Fan an you're reading this, we have to assume you have at least a bit of a masochistic streak to your personality.  There are times when being a fan of this ball team goes beyond the simple definition of frustration and futility.  Our Sox were chewed up and spit out for the third consecutive day in Anaheim.  The final was 5-4, losing with two outs on the last pitched ball of the game.

Choose your poison, Sox Fans.  You can either be humiliated 19-0, or get your chained yanked 5-4.  Either way, it's brutal.

Gary Glover was today's sacrificial lamb.  Our newest #5 pitcher was sent packing after five innings.  He had blown the lead Carlos Lee had given him with a solo dinger, and left on the short end of a 3-1 score.  Now it was the bullpen's turn to embarrass the Sox, right?

Not so fast!  Antonio Osuna did a respectable impersonation of a big league reliever, going two full innings without allowing a hit.  Sox Fans, could it be our team still has a pulse?

Paul Konerko continues to swing a hot bat, driving in a  run in the fifth inning.  Tony Graffannino stepped up to leadoff off the seventh inning and pounded one beyond the center field fence.  Finally, the game was tied, 3-3.

Oh, if only the Sox had made more of that fifth inning.  With bases loaded, neither Carlos Lee or Sandy Alomar could get the job done.  The Sox would pay dearly for failing to come through in the clutch.

Pinch hitter Magglio Ordonez tied the game again in the eighth with a solo dinger, and another terrific scoring opportunity failed in the ninth, squandering a leadoff walk by Ken Lofton.  Instead, the Sox again looked to slam the door with a Keith Foulke ninth inning appearance in a tied game.

Been there.  Done that.  All Sox Fans can say is, "Oh, the horror!"

Two quick outs and one of Anaheim's slugs takes one for the team to reach first base with an oowie.  It couldn't have hurt too much because the jerk promptly stole second.  In a bit of managerial strategy that will be ripped apart for at least two more days, Jerry Manuel decides to walk Darrin Erstad and pitch to their top hitter, Troy Glaus.

You know how this one ends.  It was a solid hit to left, and the Sox lost.  Eleven Sox hits for a paltry four runs.  If we get even one hit as timely as Glaus's, we win this game.

Aw, crap...

Tony Graffanino

2 for 4 with a walk, a run, and an rbi.  His seventh inning dinger finally tied the game for the Sox after trailing the prior four innings.  It wouldn't be enough to avoid the sweep.
