Pre-Game Report

Sox Fans, thank heaven for the Texas Rangers!  Just when you think our guys are cooked, done in by lousy pitching, the mighty Sox "O" starts teeing off on a pitching staff only Andy MacPhail and the north side losers could love.  A big effort in the sixth inning bring the Sox home an 11-6 victory!

Sox Fans, you don't lose too many games when you bat around!

This was Gary Glover's debut as the new #5 starter in Jerry Manuel's rotation.  Sox Fans can take comfort few if any teams in the entire league have a decent pitcher in such a role.  Watching some of these slugs throw the pill makes older Sox Fans nostalgic for the good old days of four-man rotations.

Thankfully, Glover wasn't around too long for Sox Fans to become too ill over watching blow this game.  Chased after three innings, Glover allowed three runs, two hits, one of which was a dinger, a hit batsmen, and a whopping three walks.  The Sox were down 3-1, and the fretting amongst Sox Fans was starting in earnest.

Hawk Harrelson was obviously pissed, doing a slow burn in the TV booth.  At times like this, we're betting sidekick Darrin Jackson wishes he was anywhere but inside the booth next to Hawk.  He is definitely in a no-win situation.

The Sox comeback started the very next inning.  The bottom of the line up got things going, Royce Clayton singling home Carlos Lee after the leftfielder doubled.  Kenny Lofton led off the fifth inning with a monster center field dinger, but the Sox still trailed 4-3.

Time for the 2002 team's patented Big Inning!

Jose Valentin started things with a screaming shot into the right field corner seats and the game was suddenly tied.  Last year's team would probably have folded with three straight outs after that, hoping to hold on and squeak out a win.

In contrast, this 2002 team is filled with greedy bastards.  Everyone wanted a piece of Rangers pitching fodder, Rob Bell.  Eleven more Sox would get their cuts, stacking up base hits and rbi's like cord wood alongside the hearth of the Yule fire.

It destruction of Texas didn't end till the Sox had eight runs on seven hits, and a walk.  The big blows were a two-rbi single by Frank Thomas, a three-rbi dinger by Magglio Ordonez, and an rbi double by Jose Valentin, batting for the second time in the inning.

Isn't it good to laugh, Sox Fans?

The proud recipient of all this offense was Sox bullpen slug, Mike Porzio.  He lapped it up like a stray cat offered a saucer of milk, earning his first victory of the year for two innings of unspectacular relief work.

Recent Charlotte call up, Matt Ginter brought it home the last four innings to earn his first save.  He was doubtlessly thinking this gig sure beats eating pepper steak between bus trips in the International League.

The series is tied with two games left to be played.  Meanwhile the Twins couldn't handle their latest sub-.500 opponent, Kansas City, so the Sox again are tied in the loss column with the miserable pretenders from up north.

Take care of business, and it will all work out, Sox Fans.
