About the best thing you can say about losing a game like this is sports talk radio hosts will have plenty of action during the listener call-in portion of their show.  The Sox blow three leads and Antonio Osuna blows the game in the ninth, 6-5 losers in Texas.

The deep thinkers who host the sports talk gabfests will have plenty of fodder for their latest pontifications.  It's all so predictable.  Sox Fans, save yourself the aggravation and tune in to something that offers more insight.  For example, the Illinois Department of Transportation's traffic computer will give you ten-times the quantity of useful information in five minutes than Mike North will his entire show.

"Outbound... on the... Eisenhower Expressway... 38 minutes..."

Jon Garland gave up two leads, one of three runs (courtesy of Frank Thomas and Paul Konerko) in the first inning, and another of one run (courtesy a Magglio Ordonez dinger) in the third.

Garland was underwhelming Texas hitters but still stood to be the winner, chased in the sixth inning, charged wit four runs, six hits, and three walks against one dinger.

The recently returned surgically-repaired arm of Rocky Biddle was chosen by manager Jerry Manuel to bail Garland out of trouble in the sixth.   Biddle coughed up the lead, then pitched the next 1.1 innings without doing harm.

Sox bats were silent the last six frames, and that in a nutshell is why the Sox lost.  Ray Durham almost single-handedly won the game in the seventh, doubling to lead off the inning, advancing to third on a pop fly, then racing home when the ball hit him in the back.

That set the stage for Antonio Osuna.  He has specialized in getting easy wins with well-timed relief appearances.  Tonight he would have to earn it.  He didn't.  Osuna allowed two runs, four hits, and a walk in tidy 1.1 innings work.  He never got the last two outs of the ninth, allowing outfield slug Gabe Kapler to beat us with a dying quail of a sacrifice pop fly.

Does Kapler's sacrifice make up for the two errors he committed in this game?  It certainly did in the win column.  That's all anybody will be beefing about on the radio back in Chicago.  Funny how that works.

Ray Durham

2 for 4 with a double, a walk, and a stolen base, scoring two runs.  His heads up baserunning in the seventh staked the Sox to their third lead of the game, the only offense the Sox mustered across the final six frames.
