Pre-Game Report

Our Chicago White Sox worked out a whole lot of frustration in the first of this three-game series against Oakland at Comiskey.  More than winning 6-1, the Sox beat another of those no-name pitchers that give us fits, and Mark Buehrle reasserted mastery of the mound, gathering his first career victory over the A's.

Hey, Paul Konerko got the night off and we won anyway.  Sox Fans, we're unstoppable!

That pathetic wretch, Mike Fyhrie was Art Howe's starting pitcher.  This guy is Joe Mays-in-waiting, getting our guys to flail away at all sorts of off the plate crap.  So it was especially important the Sox broke on top on this jerk.

Royce Clayton to the rescue!  In the second inning with bases loaded, our mighty #9 hitter, a bouncer to third base looked to be an inning ending double play.  No!  Eric Chavez failed to tag third base, instead firing a strike to home, trying to cut down the run?  What, did he think it was Ken Lofton scampering down the first base line?

His throw goes wild and everybody is safe, the Sox scoring two runs.  Lofton is next with an rbi single followed one batter later by Frank Thomas with an rbi double.  It's 4-0 and it's game over!

Mark Buehrle sliced through Oakland's line up like a hot knife through butter.  He left in the seventh having scattered six hits in a one run effort.  Antonio Osuna and Keith Foulke nailed down Buehrle's fifth win, the first pitcher to reach that mark.  Too bad Peter Gammons still isn't impressed.

Frank Thomas added a solo homer in the fourth and Jose Valentin doubled home another Sox run in the seventh.

The Sox owe Oakland for more than just one payback victory.  Saturday is the season's first fireworks night, and kids attending Sunday's game get authentic leather fielder's gloves.  Maybe Eric Chavez can get one, too.

Sox Fans say, "We want more payback!"

The Twinkies beat Detroit, leaving the Sox still one-half off the division pace.  Minnesota's spanking will come soon enough!
