Ugliest of sweeps

April 28 at Oakland.

Short take:  Mailed it in.

Though thousands of Sox Fans may doubt it, your intrepid WSI reporter knows through reliable sources that the sun will indeed rise in the east tomorrow morning.  There is good reason to believe it will rise over California, too, though Sox Fans may be forgiven if they wish the whole state wouldn't just slide straight into the Pacific Ocean.

Ah dreams, eh Sox Fans?

Our beloved Pale Hose were shutout 10-0 by Oakland, who completed their weekend sweep of our first-place team.  The persons separating our guys from being no-hit were Paul Konerko and Carlos Lee.  Konehead extended his hitting streak to sixteen games with a single and a double.  Lee hit safely and (gasp!) drew a walk, too!  Just one of those days.

Todd Ritchie probably deserved a better fate than his second loss of the year.  A pair of very costly errors by Jose Valentin gave Oakland the unearned run support the Sox could hardly afford to offer.

Unfortunately for Sox Fans, blaming defensive miscues is a bit futile when our hitters #1-5 go a collective 0 for 15 with two strikeouts.  After a hopeful start to the season, the bottom of the line up has gone limp too.  Clearly the Sox are a better hitting team than they shown this weekend.

Ritchie left after five innings, having issued five walks to Art Howe's flat-footed bunch, standing around waiting for pitches to crush.  Bob Howry fed his gopher in one inning relief.  Jim Parque and Gary Glover could make it through their innings without walking someone, too.  This is beyond depressing to recount.

Monday is an off day before Lou Piniella brings his tired act to Comiskey.  How many times will Mike Cameron swing from the heels?  This is a hell of a team for the Sox to try and get back on track against!
