Sox in overdrive!

April 24 at Cleveland.

Short take:  Don't mess with the best!

As big as last Tuesday night's victory was to break Cleveland's ten-game winning streak, this one might have been even bigger!  Our first-place Chicago White Sox take the Tribe by the throat, put the gun to their head, and fire multiple rounds, in a crushing 9- 2 victory at Jacobs Field.

All along the banks of the Cuyahoga, tomorrow's sports discussion will be, "How are the Browns shaping up?"  It's just too painful to talk about baseball.  For Sox Fans, this is almost as good as listening to Cubs fans whine.  Almost.

C.C. Sabathia was roadkill in this one.  With two out in the first inning, Magglio Ordonez drilled one into the seats to stake rookie Danny Wright to a two-run lead before his first pitch.  Paul Konerko led off the fourth with a a solo dinger, and the Sox were off to the races.  Carlos Lee tripled, and Sandy Alomar sacrifice him home.

The next inning was another of those great offensive assault Sox Fans have grown to know and love about these 2002 Pale Hose.  Ray Durham led off with a double, the first of five consecutive Sox to reach base on Sabathia.  Two more Sox runs cross the plate and smelly old man Charlie Manuel pops out of the dugout to give the hook to his starter.  Viewing him pout on the Cleveland bench was beautiful art to Sox Fans' eyes!

Danny Wright was making all of it hold up.  The Tribe got one unearned run in the first, but Wright shut them out the remainder of the way.  He left after six innings having scattered four hits, striking out four while walking three.

It would have been easy to coast home, but this Sox team has an extra gear reminiscent of the great '77 South Side Hitmen.  The Big Sox "O" pounded three more runs out of the Tribe in the top of the ninth, as much as underscoring the point made the past six games:  don't mess with the division's best!  In a game anybody would say the Sox had in the bag, seven more hitters went up to the plate to get some extra rips at their division rival.

They say the best teams are all greedy bastards.  This Sox team definitely has the champion's 'tude.

A matinee on Thursday and then off to Oakland.  Sox Fans can hardly wait to see this team wrap its hands around Minnesota's throat.  We've got a year's worth of frustration to pound out of their rancid flesh, too.
