Broom the Tribe!

April 18 vs. Cleveland.

Short take:  Are these guys for real?  Yes!!!

So Sox Fans, are the alarm bells ringing up and down the banks of the  Cuyahoga River, or what?  Have the pathetic rabble of depressed Tribe Fans made their way home east on I-80 past Elkhart with the map light on, trying to remember how to avoid downtown Toledo?  Or have they already given up on baseball and gone back to talking about their lousy expansion NFL team, the poor relation to the Steelers just across the state line in Pittsburgh?

Ah, it's a depressing life in the Armpit of Ohio.  So what's a bit more depression laid over their pathetic existence?  If it gets any worse, maybe Michael Moore will visit and do a tongue-in-cheek comedy about life in Youngstown, "Charlie Manuel and Me".

Yeah, our Sox swept the Tribe.  Tonight's final was 7-1.  Sox Fans brought their brooms and put them to good use.  It's another great day to be a Sox Fan!  Of course, this is not to imply  anyone at the Sun-Times will notice, or that Phil Rogers won't still write a column next Sunday about how much Sox Fans wish we still had the great Sammy Sosa on our team.

Yeah, right.  We need to trade in three division titles for all the "excitement" of finishing dead-last Sammy provides.  Get a clue!

Easy does it, Sox Fans.  Todd Ritchie was in command, and the Sox offense had little trouble with fat boy Bartolo Colon, hanging him with his first loss of the season.  Paul Konerko led off the second inning sending one downtown.  Ken Lofton duplicated the feat in the third.  The Sox chalked up two more runs in the inning with rbi's by Magglio Ordonez and Paul Konerko.  It was 4-0 Sox, and the taunts began in earnest around the ballpark.

Ritchie had it on cruise control. He pitched seven innings, allowing one run on six hits, picking up his first win as a member of the Sox.

The seventh inning was especially entertaining.  Once again, the bottom of the Sox line up started the rally.  Mark Johnson walked, and Royce Clayton reached on a Colon throwing error.  Ducks on the pond and the top of line up coming up means lights out for the other team against our Sox!

Lofton collected an rbi on his fielder's choice, then advanced two bases after rattling Colon into his second throwing error of the inning.  Ray Durham walks, and Frank Thomas doubles both of them home.  The whole inning was a thing of beauty.  Three runs on one hit, the Big Hurt's double.

This is some exciting baseball the Sox are playing.  Too bad there aren't more baseball fans in this city to come out and watch them.

No thanks to Jay Mariotti or Phil Rogers.
