Late runs win it!

April 13 vs. Baltimore.

Short take:  Don't count this team out!

How do you like us now, Chicago?  While a certain ignorant jerk of a sports columnist does his level best to ignore the best sports story in the city, Sox Fans invite everyone else to join in on the fun.  Chicago has a baseball team built not on personality, but WINNING!

Quite a novel concept for the maroons running the Sun-Times sports department, ain't it?

Yeah, the Sox won again.  That's four in a row.  Today's victim was Baltimore.  4-3 was the final.  What are the pajama kids doing in Pittsburgh?  Does anybody really care?

Todd Ritchie pitched well in seven full innings, but ultimately was his own worst enemy.  In the third inning, He walked the batter that scored on a passed ball, and it was Ritchie's throwing error on a pick off play that led to another run in the seventh.

The Sox were struggling for anything against old fart Scott Erickson.  Ray Durham had an rbi single in the third, but that was it.

Sox Fans know too well how last year's team would have responded in this situation.  Ten or twelve consecutive outs of corpseball would have lost this game without hardly a whimper.  But this is 2002, and a champion's heart seems to be beating inside the Sox dugout.

The comeback started in the seventh.  Jose Valentin has been asked to adjust to playing third base everyday and to bat in the bottom-half of the order.  He's struggled, getting fewer fastballs.  No bother, whatever it takes to win!  Valentin muscled an 0-1 pitch into seats to get back the run Ritchie gave up in the top of the frame.

Then came the fateful eighth.  Kenny Lofton (of course) started the inning with a one-out single.  He rattled the pitcher enough to advance a base on a wild pitch.  Next, Durham slapped one past the mound, drawing an ill-advised bare-handed attempt by the Orioles' secondbasemen, drawing an errant throw.  Thank you!  Lofton scored and Durham advanced to second.  Game tied.

Frank Thomas kept things going with a single to advance Durham to third.  With two out, it all came down to Paul Konerko, who is 0-fer the series.  Konehead got enough of a 1-2 pitch to stick one in the grass in short left field, scoring the go-ahead run.

Keith Foulke slammed the door 1-2-3 in the ninth, and suddenly the White Sox look like a team that takes this winning business seriously.

Somebody alert the Sun-Times.  They're looking more like imbeciles with each passing day.
