WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

What just happened?

June 3rd Vs Brewers

WSI Playdate Funtime:
Crazy Eights
Crazy crazy win.

Short Take: Timely extra base hits, a solid 5 from Covey and a bullpen that actually did it's job? Crazy....

Sorry for the Sunday blackout recently. I've been busy and we're short on writers, but today I get the chance to write a fun recap and so I will. You may think I'm crazy but I have some interesting facts to relay about today's Sox game. Dylan Covey continues to pitch well. The Bullpen produced 4 innings of 1 hit, 0 walk no run baseball. The offense only managed 7 hits, but scored 6 runs. Adam Engel had two of those hits and a home run. Yeah yeah yeah, pull the other one, now voodoo, I hear you say, but nope all of that is completely true and the Sox went on to win 6-1.

There wasn't much action early in this game. Neither team did much offensively the first 4 innings. In fact there were only two hits and a single walk as both pitchers dominated. Yoan Moncada had the biggest blow during this stretch with a 2-out triple in the second, but he was left stranded. In the 5th the Brewers finally broke through with a pair of singles and a walk to load the bases with one away. Covey then induced a weak chopper toward third but Yolmer Sanchez muffed it allowing the run to score. Fortunately Covey then induced a popup and a K to prevent more damage. Covey came back out for the 6th but gave up an infield single and was pulled.

Meanwhile the offense started to heat up in their half of the 5th. Moncada walked sandwiched between a couple of strikeouts. Tilsoon worked the count well and induced a walk also and then Alfredo Gonzalez got his first big league hit and Moncada scored with diving slide to beat the throw home. In the 6th Sanchez led off with a single and after Jose Abreu popped out Daniel Palka won the PTC with a 2-run blast to right. Engel followed with his homer just over the rightfield fence to make it 4-1. In the 8th the Sox tacked on two more on a Sanchez walk, Abreu double and another Engel double following a Palka K. There weren't a lot of hits for the Sox but 5 of the 7 hits were for extra bases and they took 4 walks and 2 of those walks scored.

Meanwhile as mentioned above, the bullpen came on and locked things down for the most part. Volstad got the win for his 0.1 innings of pitching. Soria worked a scoreless 7th with 2 K Jace Fry continued to pitch well and Chris Beck even shut the door in the 9th - allowing only a chumpy little infield single that both he and Abreu tried to field, leaving no one to cover first when Chris actually grabbed the ball. I know, I know... it was crazy...

So that's the story of our crazy Sunday win. The Sox actually had timely two-out extra-base hits. The bullpen continues to look better and Dylan Covey looks like he's been reborn hard. The Sox get another day off before traveling to Minnesota on Tuesday to face the dreaded cream-filled pastries from the great north. Maybe this time they'll actually get an 8th hit, but if not, hopefully they can continue hitting the baseball hard when they do.
