WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

April 22nd Vs Astros

WSI Playdate Funtime:
It completely boggles my mind why I watched this game.

Short Take: Same stuff different day. At least Lopez continues to look good.

Yeah, so that happened. Sox play other team. Sox struggle to score. Sox lose. Wash rinse repeat. It's the story of the 2018 season so far. At least the offense showed some sign of life and managed 9 hits and 2 walks, but only scored one and the Sox went on to lose 7-1

The hero of the game (if there actually was such a thing) was Yolmer Sanchez who reached base all 4 times he batted. Once he got hit by the pitch, but he also managed a couple of singles and a walk and drove in the Sox only run. Otherwise the Sox were busy hitting into 4 double plays and also ran on guys they shouldn't be running on thus compounding the problem. Offensively it smelled a bit better, but it tasted the same - like warmed over leftover dog food and no one enjoys that, not even Chopper.

In terms of pitching the Sox had the usual cast of characters do the usual things. Lopez looked good again but only made it through 5 innings yielding only a single run before reaching 100 pitches. After that Infante pitched a scoreless 6th and then the wheels came off in the 7th when Bummer, Rondon and Jones combined to give up 5 runs and end any hope the team might have to end the current losing streak - which stands at 7 with only the snow-outs in Minnesota standing in the way of further futility.

The good news is that Moncada continues to look better, reaching base twice, but he also ran into the out I mentioned above challenging Josh Reddick's arm and being beat handily at home, though a nifty slide nearly got him in safely. Garcia had a couple hits too and Davidson added another double and a run scored, but overall the Sox just didn't string enough hits together and there were just too many 2-hop choppers to short with a runner on first and less than two outs. Maybe something breaks tomorrow when they start playing the Mariners who are in town for a 3-game set. Seattle is off to a solid start but they aren't Houston good so maybe the Sox can get a win. Tune in tomorrow at 7:10 PM local time to find out. Something's gotta give eventually, right?
