Sox on Wrong End of Lopsided Game

August 30 at Minnesota Twins

Sox Office Smash Hit:
Groundhog Day
Holland, bullpen, and Sox bats are ineffective and Sox lose big to the Twins in Minnesota. Been there, done that.

Short Take:  Derek Holland and bullpen give up boatloads of runs to the Twins while the Sox can't touch Juan Berrios and friends; Sox suffer 11-1 drubbing

The only good news I can come up with about today's game is at least newly annointed Sox killer Jorge Polanco did not contribute to today's embarrassing loss. However, everyone else in the Twins lineup made up for him in a 11-1 squashing of the White Sox.

Twins starter Juan Berrios was extremely effective, allowing 4 hits and striking out 11 Sox hitters over 7 innings, only walking 1. He used his high fastball to great effect in key moments of the game -- such as when the Sox loaded the bases in the 4th after he gave up his only walk, but Berrios struck out Tim Anderson to end the inning.

On the other end of the spectrum, Derek Holland was his usual 2017 self, meaning "just another ineffective pitcher on a mediocre pitching staff." He lasted 5 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, walking 4 and striking out 4. The Twins feasted on Holland's pitching. Relievers Mike Pelfrey and Chris Beck fared no better, giving up 6 more runs after Holland exited. All I heard all evening was the solid crack! of Twin bats, especially those of Eddie Rosario (2 home runs, 3 RBIs), and Ehire Adrianza (2 triples and a double, 4 RBIs).

Oh, yeah, there was one bright spot for the Sox: Avisail Garcia hit the ball well, going 3 for 4 including a triple in the 9th inning. He scored after Matt Davidson's sac fly.

Just another loss in a lost season.

The Sox try to avoid getting swept by the Twins tomorrow at 12:10 pm CST. Miguel Gonzalez faces Bartolo Colon.

Fandamonium:
 Embarrassing.
