Six in a row...

May 12 Vs. Padres

Sox Office Smash Hit:
The Sixth Sense
Because like the movie our heroes were dead from the start

Short Take: This one was over before it began. Sox were down early and never really stood a chance.

But I don't want to write a recap. I mean honestly, would you? Tell the truth now. I suppose I owe you one since you actually clicked the link and decided to read about the snooze fest that was tonight's game. The Sox started out slow, gave up an early lead, let that lead grow, managed to get within one then let the Padres slowly grow the lead back up and then mercifully it was over and the Sox had lost 6-3. Their sixth loss in a row as as the season starts to turn the way we all thought it would before it started.

Miguel Gonzalez started for the Sox tonight and he didn't have his best outing. He gave up a run in the first on a massive bomb by Matt Szczur on the very first pitch of the game. Then in the third the Padres added two more on an infield single a walk and a double. They added two more in the 5th a one out homer and a single, walk single combo that closed the book on Miguel at 5 innings with 8 hits, 4 walks and 5 runs allowed all earned. We've come to expect more of him but maybe that's our fault, not his.

Offensively the Sox were showing off their true colors once again. They managed to score 3 runs but all of them were courtesy of Leury Garcia who smacked a couple of baseballs into the cheap seats once. The first time there was even a man on. That blast made it 3-2 but though he added another single to bring his total to 3 hits and raise his batting average to .304 the rest of the team was no help managing 5 meager hits and a single walk. Since Yolmer Sanchez and Avisail Garcia both managed too collect a pair of hits apiece there just wasn't enough help from the rest of the team to cause the Padres to sweat too much.

The bullpen continued to look pretty solid other than Chris Beck, but we know he's just filler so it's not that big of a deal. Michael Ynoa continued to pitch solidly and has possibly increased his value as a throw in piece as the trading season starts to heat up. Still if the best we have to look forward to is rooting for our bullpen filler to improve it's value and bring a bigger haul it's going to be a long slow grind of a season for people who actually like to watch good baseball. Well, it is what it is and tomorrow it is once again. Game time is at 6:10 in Chicago and the Sox are sending Dylan Covey to the mound once again. Will he collect his first win in a Sox uniform? Will he get his ERA under 8? Will the fireworks be worth the 3 hours of sitting around watching the baseball game that precedes them? Can the Sox break their losing streak? Lots of questions not many answers. Is it 2019 yet?
