WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Well, who didn't see that coming?

July 11 at Cleveland

Daily Sox Crop Report:
Quintana and Sale and pray for hail
Our pitching is thin

Short Take:   One missed tag is too much for Sox pitching to over come

Well, you didn't have to be psychic to see that coming.

The Sox were clinging to a one run lead going into the bottom of the fifth when Alexei Ramirez whiffed on tagging Asdrubal Cabrera for what would have been the third out of the inning. In fact, the umps even called Cabrera out at first. But then they reviewed the play, Cabrera is safe, goes onto score and the White Sox go on to lose 7-4.

The game was over as soon as that call was overturned. It was just a question of how much they lost by.

Hector Noesi took the mound tonight, and while he hasn't been awful, he's not good enough to pitch over mistakes. He's not the kind of guy who can afford to give the other team extra outs.

And that's exactly what the Sox did.

Noesi was by means good. Every time the Sox scored, Cleveland would come right back and score in their half of the inning. But Noesi was serviceable. He was certainly good enough to get a win and it looked like he was going to be in line to get one.

But, then there was that missed tag. And then the flood gates open.

In case you missed it, and kudos to you if you did, what happened was this: with two outs in the 5th, Asdrubal Cabrera goes to steal second. The throw beats him by at least a foot and Alexei puts down a swipe tag. The ump calls him out, and the Sox start heading off the field.

If the same play happened last year, the Sox would have been out of the inning. Oh sure, Cabrera would have screamed bloody murder and Terry Francona probably would have gotten tossed, but the Sox would be out of the inning.

But MLB wants the umpires to get calls right this year, so the call was challenged, reviewed and over turned.

And the Sox were doomed.

Pretty much everyone knew it too. In fact, I bet most Sox fans could tell you EXACTLY what was going to happen next.

Lonnie Chisenhall singled to drive in Cabrera and Chisenhall then moved up to second on a bad throw to the plate. Then of course, Nick "the talking jackass" Swisher hit a home run.

I think he thought it was a walk-off World Series winner, he certainly acted like it, but it might as well have been a walk-off.

The Sox were done.

The Indians added another run in the seventh and MLB rules dictated the Sox were obliged to play out the extra innings but the game was over in the fifth.

Sell. This is a frustrating team to watch sometimes.
