Daily Sox Crop Report:

Jose Abreu's three-run HR in top of the eighth gives Sox 4-2 victory

Short Take:   Abreu hits 15th HR of season; Beckham adds three hits; Rienzo allows just two HRs

The Sox snapped their four-game losing streak Wednesday afternoon as they defeated Oakland 4-2 at the O.co Coliseum, aka the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum, aka The House That Ken Stabler Built.

Sox first baseman Jose Abreu delivered again for the South Siders, drilling a three-run home run in the top of the eighth, giving the Sox the lead. For the Sox' Cuban rookie, it was his 15th home run of the season and all but wrapped up the 2014 AL Rookie of the Year with 120 games remaining.

The top two hitters in the Sox' order, second baseman Gordon Beckham and third baseman Conor Gillaspie, also contributed, finishing with three hits apiece. Beckham also scored twice and drove in a run, while Gillaspie raised his average to .333 and scored once.

Although not figuring into the decision, Sox starter Andre Rienzo was solid. The Brazilian righthander lasted 6 1/3 innings, striking out four. The two hits he allowed were solo HRs to John Jaso and Josh Donaldson.

Reliever Ronald Belisario got the win, improving to 2-3. The ex-Dodger worked 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the South Siders (20-22).

Matt Lindstrom picked up his sixth save of the season, but not before damn near giving up the lead in the bottom of the ninth. After Jed Lowrie walked to open the ninth, Donaldson singled, putting runners on first and second. Brandon Moss then rolled into a 4-6-3 double play, helping the Sox immeasurably while also ticking off Sox radio PBP announcer Ed Farmer as Ramirez was spiked by a sliding Donaldson at second base. Farmer mentioned that Donaldson came in "with high spikes" and inferred that Donaldson could get "drilled" the next time the Sox and A's do battle.

Abreu is really damn good. If someone else wins the AL ROY this season, it will be a damn shame. Nice to see Beckham raising his game offensively. The downside to the game was listening to two innings of DJ on the radio in rush hour traffic on the way home.

Whatever Abreu is selling, I'm buying. From the way his game-winning HR was described on the radio, it didn't take long for it to leave the playing field. Nice. Does Grandstand have an Abreu jersey t-shirt in a 3XL?
