Andre the Giant

April 28 vs Tampa Bay

Daily Sox Crop Report:
Spring Rains Supplying Growth for Sox Lumber
The Sox offense continues to put a hurtin' on the baseball.

Short Take:   Rienzo overcame a shaky start and beats Tampa Bay 7-3.

The White Sox offense is first in the Majors in runs scored so far on the early season and it's easy to see why. Jose Abreu has set rookie records for homers and RBIs in a month to go along with the fact that Dayan Viciedo, Alexei Ramirez, and Tyler Flowers are all amongst the league leaders in hitting. The bullpen has been our weak link so far this year as our young staff has struggled mightily in giving up the base on balls. However, the last two games haven't had that problem. On Monday night, we took care of the Rays in the series finale to take 3 of 4 by a score of 7-3. Young Andre Rienzo battled back from a shaky start to get the win.

Rienzo (2-0) gave up a double off the bat of Ben Zobrist to start off the game. Zobrist would score, thanks in part to two errors by Rienzo and Gordon Beckman. Desmond Jennings later scored from second base on a Matt Joyce sacrifice fly. The Sox would respond in the bottom of the second. After an Adam Dunn single, Alejandro De Aza launched his fourth homer off of Tampa Bay starter Jake Odorizzi to make it a 2-2 game.

The Rays would go up 3-2 in the top of the fourth on a run-scoring double by David DeJesus. It would be all us from there.

Alexei "Bag-A-Bones" Ramirez tripled in the bottom of the fourth to score Dayan Viciedo. Marcus Semien followed that up with a double to score Bag-A-Bones.

The Sox would tack on three more in the game thanks to two-run double by Adam Eaton in the bottom of the sixth, and an RBI single from Jose Abreu in the eighth.

Besides the offense, the story was starting pitcher Andre Rienzo and Zach Putnam out of the bullpen. Rienzo rebounded over those early mistakes to pitch six innings allowing three runs, two earned. Putnam pitched two innings of scoreless relief, working a really nice change up. Matt Lindstrom worked the ninth in a non-save situation, gave up his usual hit, but otherwise got out of the inning without giving up a run. So, I guess we're thankful for small miracles.

The Sox welcome Detoilet to Chicago for a short two-game set on Tuesday April 29th. The game starts at 7:10.
