WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Semien Provides Dessert During Dinner with Andre

April 23 at Detroit

Daily Sox Crop Report:
Rotten tomatoes? bumper crop?
Semien is damn clutch, Abreu hits another bomb to center and Rienzo wasn’t all that bad.

Short Take:   Marcus Semien’s first career grand slam powers Sox to 6-4 win over Detroit. Winning pitcher Andre Rienzo isn’t terrible. BTW, Jose Abreu homered again.

Totally Biased paragraph.  Sox announcer Ken Harrelson provided Marcus Semien with quite a compliment during the Sox’ 6-4 victory over Detroit Wednesday night in Game 3 of a four-game series at Comerica Park. “He (Semien) is a baseball player,” Harrelson said after the infielder drilled his first career grand slam with two outs in the top of the seventh, helping the South Siders erase a 4-2 deficit. Semien’s grand slam, which came off Tigers reliever and Naperville native Ian Krol, was his third home run of the season. All three of Semien’s home runs this season have been in the seventh inning or later this season and have put the Sox ahead. Semien’s heroics helped make Andre Rienzo a winner in his first game of the season. The Brazilian righthander pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs and two walks. Rienzo also struck out three. With the Sox leading 2-0 after Jose Abreu’s two-run blast in the first inning off Detroit starter Drew Smyly, the Tigers took the lead with four runs in the fourth. For Abreu, it was his seventh home run of the season. J.D. Martinez’s two-run single to center tied the game at 2-all. The next batter, Austin Jackson, homered into the bullpen in left, giving Detroit a 4-2 advantage. In the top of the seventh with Paul Konerko (single) and Alejandro DeAza (single) aboard, Tyler Flowers walked, filling the bases for Jordan Danks with one out. Danks lifted a foul pop-up to Tigers third baseman Nick Castellanos for the second out before Semien delivered his clutch blast. In the bottom of the ninth, the Sox’ bullpen – which received scoreless and hitless performances from both Scott Downs and Ronald Belisario – of course provided at least one moment in which expletives were said reasonably loudly. With closer Matt Lindstrom in the game, Victor Martinez singled to open the ninth. J.D. Martinez then flew out to deep center with Danks making the catch on the warning track. After Jackson walked, Castellanos lofted a fly ball to Dayan Viciedo in right. Viciedo made the catch with both runners advancing one base. Getting the green light on a 3-0 count, Tigers catcher Alex Avila smoked a line drive that was caught by Abreu at first base, giving the Sox two wins in the first three games of this series. For Lindstrom, it was his third save of the season.

Utterly Petty paragraph.

Completely Unobjective paragraph.

The Futures Market:
Buying. Abreu & Semien keep providing hope for this season and beyond.
