Road woes continue for Sox

June 19 at Minnesota

A summer blockbuster this is not.

Short Take: A disastrous road trip continues with yet another loss in Minnesota.

Alejandro De Aza led off Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins with a solo home run. Yeah, that was about the only highlight for the White Sox as the death march known as the 2013 season continued with a yet another loss -- this time a 7-4 defeat at the hands of the Twins.

The loss drops the South Siders (29-40) 11 games below .500 for the first time since May of 2011. The Sox have lost six of their last seven. They are 1-5 on their current 10-game road trip, and they've lost 14 of their last 16 games away from U.S. Cellular Field.

You get the idea. These guys stink.

Sox ace Chris Sale (5-6) didn't have it Wednesday night. He threw 124 pitches in his last outing, a loss to Houston last Friday, and perhaps his arm wasn't completely recovered. It didn't help that he was struck by a sharp comebacker off the bat of Oswaldo Arcia in the second inning. Sale gave up a three-run homer to some bum named Brian Dozier later in the inning. The Twins went ahead 3-1. They never trailed the rest of the night.

Sale lasted only five laborious innings. He allowed four runs on eight hits. He struck out five, walked two and threw 101 pitches. He left the game with the Sox trailing 4-1.

Triple-A punching bag Deunte Heath relieved and coughed up three more runs in the sixth, allowing Minnesota to increase its lead to 7-1. Heath, in customary fashion, walked three men in his two innings of work. The dude has never been able to find the plate, and that is reflected in his 11.74 ERA. Anyone know why the Sox keep calling him up from the minors? He can't pitch at the MLB level, plain and simple.

The Sox got a run in the seventh on an RBI single by Dayan Viciedo. Adam Dunn's two-run single in the eighth made it 7-4. The score looks a little better in the paper as a result of the late offense, but let's face it, this wasn't the Sox's night. Few nights are.

The South Siders will try to salvage one game and some dignity in the series finale Thursday afternoon. John Danks (1-3, 4.50 ERA) gets the call on the mound for the Sox. He'll be opposed by left-hander Scott Diamond (4-6, 5.29 ERA). Game time is 12:10. If you're not working and don't have anything better to do, you can watch on Comcast SportsNet.

I'll tell you what, Stone Pony, I'd rather be home watching the Blackhawks.
