WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Mistakes by the Lake

April 12 at Cleveland

Today's Game Rating:
1 Star
Quintana was great and earned a star, but that was about it.

Short Take:   Jose Quintana pitched brilliant, but Cleveland got a complete game shutout from Justin Masterson to beat the Sox 1-0.

Jose Quintana (0-0) struggled in his first start against Seattle. In his second start, Friday night against Cleveland, Quintana was great. He tossed seven shutout innings allowing only one hit. The only problem was Justin Masterson (3-0) threw a complete game shutout for the Indians, allowing only five hits. The Sox ended up losing 1-0 to fall to 4-6 on the early season. The White Sox have now lost four in a row after getting swept in Washington.

Outside of the pitching, there weren't many chances for our offense in this one. Alexei Ramirez led off the sixth with a hit but got thrown out trying to steal. Conar Gillaspie opened the eighth with a double but got no further than third. Watching Alexei Ramirez pop out attempting to bunt Gillaspie over was like watching bamboo shoots up the fingernails.

After Friday night, the White Sox are now 9-for-62 with runners in scoring position.

The winning run came in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single from new Sox nemesis, Nick Swisher, off of Jesse Crain.

Let's forget this steaming pile of feces and focus on the next game. On Saturday, April 13th, Chris Sale (1-0, 1.84 ERA) will face Zach McAllister (0-1, 3.00 ERA). The game starts at 3:05 p.m. and can be seen on Comcast SportsNet.

Hawk and Stoney's Thumb Guide:
Hawk: "Former Cy Young Winner, Steve Stone, Quintana absolutely pitched his behind off, but thumbs down for me for this offense." Stone: "Hawk, I have to give thumbs up to Quintana and leave it at that."

Jose Quintana

Quintana pitched seven shutout innings of one-hit ball. Unfortunately, he can't hit, too.
