WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Sox Swept By Nasty Nats

April 11 at Washington

Today's Game Rating:
1 star
Bad starting pitching earned zero stars. One star because the offense actually scored runs, just not enough.

Short Take:   Bad starting pitching leads to a sweep by the Nationals

Washington DC hasn't been good to the Sox this week, as they were swept by the Nationals. Tonight's 7-4 loss came on the heels of a bad Dylan Axelrod start.

Axelrod only lasted 3.2 innings, and he had a long first inning. Throwing 40 pitches takes a toll on a pitcher, and Axelrod suffered in the long run. He gave up six earned runs in the innings he pitched, bringing his ERA up to 5.79. Luckily Hector Santiago pitched a brilliant 2.1 innings. He allowed just two walks in that span. Matt Lindstrom and Jesse Crain each pitched an inning of relief. Lindstrom allowed just one hit, while Crain allowed two hits, giving up a run.

The offense wasn't as productive as they could have been. They racked up 13 hits, but only four runs crossed the plate. Alex Rios drew the only walk of the night. He had a decent game, going 2-for-4 with that walk. Alejandro De Aza had a decent game as well, going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Jeff Keppinger has started hitting more, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Paul Konerko and Conor Gillaspie each picked up two hits, while Adam Dunn and Tyler Flowers batted in the other two Sox runs.

The Sox head to Cleveland for the next leg of their road trip. The Indians have been rained out for the past two games, so hopefully the Sox can pull out some wins there. Jose Quintana faces off against Justin Masterson. Quintana had a rough debut, earning a no decision but an 11.25 ERA. Masterson has had two strong starts, already earning a 2-0 record with a 0.69 ERA. Catch the game on WGN at 6:05.

Hawk and Stoney's Thumb Guide:
HAWK: I'll tell you what, Stone Pony. That was just a bad showing. Bad showing by our Sox. STONE: Thumbs down to that one, Hawk. Thumbs way down.
