WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Blue Jay Blues

August 13, at Toronto

Today's Sox Crew:
Crew's on break
We've been working our asses off all year out here, even guys like us need a rest every now and then, am I right?

Short Take:  Sox offense DOA north of the border wastes another solid start from Peavy in 11 inning loss

You know the story by now, Jake Peavy took the mound for the Sox Monday night in Toronto and delivered a good, not great, outing but was ultimately done in by a lackidasical effort by the Sox offense who could only muster a pair of solo home runs by Adam Dunn in a 3-2 loss to the Jays.

Not to take Peavy completely off the hook.  He gave the Sox 8 innings of 5-hit, 2-run ball but both runs were compliments of his mistakes, first walking Anthony Gose and his .190 batting average in the 3rd, who would come around to score and then in the 7th, surrendering Moises Sierra's first career home run.  Both times the Sox fell behind, however, Adam Dunn had their back, blasting a ridiculous home run to dead center field in the 3rd and then delivering an opposite field shot in the 9th that just cleared the left field wall.

Unfortunately, that was all she wrote for the Sox offense, which struggled with Carlos Villanueva, who went 7 strong innings, allowing only 5 runs and that 1st Dunn homer.

After Steve Delabar struck out 6 of the 7 batters he faced in the 10th and 11th innings (he actually struck out 4 in the 10th as Tyler Flowers reached on a passed ball by his counterpart), you knew the bell would soon be tolling for the Sox this Monday night.  After Lesyon Septimo issued a 4-pitch walk to Kelly Johnson with 1 out in the 11th, Nate Jones was unable to close out the frame; a sharp single by Edwin Encarnacion got just past Gordon Beckham at 2nd and David Cooper ended the affair with a single that bounced in front of Alex Rios, who did make a strong throw to the plate, and did record a pair of outfield assists after having a strong day in the field, but was unable to get the speedy Johnson at the plate.  Blue Jays win, 3-2.

The good news in all this mess is that the Tigers got a whooping thanks to the lowly Twins so the Sox division lead remains 2 games for another night.  Also, supposedly Paul Konerko showed good progress to doctors in Chicago as he recovers from his concussion.  Considering how dead the Sox offense has looked without him, he can't come back soon enough.

As for the Sox and Jays, game 2 of this 4-game series is tomorrow night, with first pitch at 6:07 PM Chicago time as Jose Quintana looks for win #5 against Henderson Alvarez.  The game will be aired locally on WCIU, Channel 26, the U!

KW Appreciates The Game:
I know you gotta lose sometimes, but 2 runs?  Come on, guys, you're killing me up here

Adam Dunn

The only member of the team who got his bat through Customs apparently, Dunn blasted career homers #397 and 398.  Too bad there was never anyone on base for him.
