That Minnesota Feeling

June 25, at Minnesota

Today's Sox Crew:
Crooked Construction Co.
Sure, they said they'd come out and reseal your driveway, but here we are and there's cracks galore.

Short Take:  Twins tag Jake Peavy early, Sox offense mounts listless campaign against Francisco Liriano, and Minnesota ruins Kevin Youkilis's White Sox debut in 4-1 loss.

Kevin Youkilis made his Major League debut for the Red Sox on May 15, 2004 and since then, the Sawx have won 30 of 53 games against the Twins (a .566 winning percentage for all of you out of reach of your TI-83s) including 8 of the last 10 dating back to the start of last season.  I hope, for his sake, he either didn't enjoy beating this crap-ass team or, better yet, smuggled some of the Twins Antidote with him because it was business as usual at Target Field as the 1st place White Sox laid a steaming turd against the AL-worst Twins in a 4-1 loss.

As you can see, I have no desire to talk about this game.  Jake Peavy took the hill for the Sox and pitched well, giving the Sox 6 innings of 3-run ball, however, he allowd 10 hits and the damage could have been much worse, as the Twins stranded 13 runners in the game.  Aside from Peavy, Hector Santiago, Nate Jones, and Will Ohman all had relatively forgettable relief appearances, although they kept the Sox in the game, but they could do nothing against the rejuvenated Liriano.  They barely threatened until the 7th, already down 3-0, when Alexei Ramirez pushed across the only run of the game on a sacrifice fly that scored Alex Rios.

So that's that.  Really don't have the energy to get too mad or excited about this dud.  It's 162 games, it happens.  Luckily Cleveland took one on the chin against the Yankees, so the Sox retain their position atop the division, but Detroit's 8-2 blowout win over the Rangers pulled them to within a game of .500 and 2 games of the Sox in the Central.  Anyways, the Sox and Twins play again tomorrow night at 7 PM Chicago time on Comcast Sports Net.  Gavin Floyd will take the hill for the Sox against Liam Hendricks, the 23-year-old Australian, a highly regarded prospect still searching for his first Major League win.  Hopefully the beer showers don't pour for at least another 5 days.

WSI's
KW Appreciates The Game:
KW spends most of the day reading idiots from the Chicago sports media (cough*Steve Rosenbloom*cough) rag on his deal for a former All-Star for a 28-year-old utility infielder hitting below .200 and the crappiest pitcher on this medicore pitching staff and then watches his team drop a 4-1 loss in Minnesota... I wonder which was worse.
