WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Lousy effort.

April 7 at Kansas City.

Short take:  Dead from the neck up.

After counting up all the culprits behind today's Sox loss, it's obvious to most Sox Fans we ought to start a goat farm.  Our Pale Hose have rarely looked worse dropping the rubber game of this series to the pathetic Kansas City Royals, 9-2 .

Baa... Baa.... Baa...

The lone highlight came with two out in the first inning.  Frank Thomas broke his bat and still managed to muscle the ball over the left field wall, staking the Sox to an early 1-0.  Sox Fans, it was all down hill from here--for us, for the Sox, and for Frank Thomas, too.

Baa... Baa... Baa...

Frank played first base for the second consecutive day because Paul Konerko's foot  is too oowie to do anything more than DH.  Jerry Manuel apparently hasn't learned what the consequences are when you lose your #3 hitter to injury making him play a position that clearly is a challenge to him.  Frank made two errors today, but the real danger is losing him for the season like we did last April.  Oh, well... Sox Fans wish this was the only boneheaded move by the Sox manager today.

Baa... Baa... Baa...

In spite of an 0 for 10 performance (including four strikeouts!) by the bottom of our line up, Jerry Manuel never made a move to his bench, even allowing Sandy Alomar to bat for himself with a runner in scoring position in the seventh, and letting .056-hitting Royce Clayton leadoff the eighth.

Did some practical joker super-glue Jeff Liefer and Tony Graffanino to the bench?  Will somebody wake up our team's skipper before the season is over?  At the rate we're losing, that date will effectively arrive by Mother's Day.

Baa... Baa... Baa...

Starter Todd Ritchie was underwhelming before getting chased in the sixth.  The bullpen, and specifically Antonio Osuna, looked even worse.  Kenny Williams watched the whole debacle from his box seat, wearing the collar of his Sox warm up jacket pulled over his face.  Next time bring a paper bag for your head, too.

Next for our Sox is another intra-divisional showdown with the mighty Detroit Tigers.  Is there anybody in the American League our Sox can take for granted?

After today's effort, don't be so sure.

Gutsy effort in the field, smart on the basepaths after earning a walk, and came home to score on the smartest play of the game, faking out the leftfielder on a flyout.
