Buehrle Dazzles in Final Start of the Season

September 27 vs. Blue Jays

Levels Finished:
5
Buehrle brought the heat and the offense got him his win.

Short Take:   Buehrle allows zero runs in potential swan song

The second-to-last game of the season was an important one for Sox fans. Mark Buehrle was making his final start of the season and perhaps his final start as a White Sox.

Mark Buehrle. What can I say about Mark Buehrle that hasn't been said already? In what may have been his final start, Buehrle went out and pitched a gem. He went seven innings, giving up six hits and striking out six. And allowing no runs. That's right, zero.

In what may be his final start as a White Sox, Buehrle picked up the win. While White Sox fans hope this isn't the last time we see him wearing the black and white, if it is, he went out with a bang, as the Sox beat the Jays 2-1.

Interim manager Don Cooper brought Buehrle back on the field at the top of the eighth, and let the crowd give him a well-deserved standing ovation. Sox players didn't take the field while Buehrle relished in this moment, and Buehrle left with the love of Sox fans around him.

With this starts, Buehrle pitched 205.1 innings this season, started 31 games, and won his 13th game. This is the 11th straight season that he has started at least 30 games, picked up double-digit wins, and pitched at least 200 innings.

Jesse Crain came on in relief and promptly scared the crap out of Sox fans. Mike McCoy only had one homer on the season until Crain gave one up in the eighth. Crain pitched 0.1 innings, gave up that run and a walk, and was quickly replaced by Chris Sale. Sale picked up the save after pitching 1.2 innings. He only gave up one hit and struck out three.

Neither team hit terribly well. The Blue Jays racked up eight hits but couldn't score a run. They had chances, but nothing ever managed to cross the plate. The White Sox scored two runs but still only picked up seven hits. Tyler Flowers hit a solo home run in the second, and AJ Pierzynski batted in Alejandro De Aza in the sixth.

The last game of the season is tomorrow afternoon. At 1:10pm, the White Sox and Blue Jays close the 2011 season. Both of these pitchers have .500 records. Brandon Morrow hopes to end his season at 12-11 which Phil Humber hopes to end at 10-9. Finish the season strong, boys.

WSI's
Ozzio's Game Rant:
Hello. Don Cooper here as your interim manager. I have nothing to rant about, as Buehrle pitched very well and we got the win.
