Sox Rout Rangers

August 21 vs. Texas Rangers

Levels Finished:
5
The Sox were on a roll all afternoon, smacking the ball all over the park.

Short Take:   The Sox held the hard-hitting Rangers scoreless, while Gavin Floyd also dazzled in his seven innings of work.

Finally... a laugher for the White Sox! And the best part is they were on the right side of said laugher! The last time the Sox won a ballgame by such a wide margin was back on May 9 when they beat the Angels 8-0. The offense came out in full force on this sun-splashed afternoon and sent the 25,000+ in attendance home happy!

This one was pretty much locked up by the fifth inning. Aside from Alexei Ramirez, every Sox player in the starting lineup had a hit. In the third, the Sox put up a four-spot, with the highlight of the inning being Brent Lillibridge's 11th homerun of the season. Following two ground outs, Derek Holland (11-5) allowed back-to-back two-out walks to Alexei Ramirez and Tyler Flowers. Alejandro De Aza came through in the clutch with a two-run double, giving the Sox a 4-0 lead. They added a single tally in the fourth, courtesy of Paul Konerko's RBI single -- the 1,999th hit of his career. The Sox added two more in the fifth on a RBI single by Juan Pierre, putting the Sox in front, 7-0.

Gavin Floyd (11-10) was simply masterful Sunday afternoon, holding the potent Texas offense to just three hits in seven innings of work, while striking out six. The only other hit by the Rangers came in the eighth off Chris Sale, who worked out of a bases-loaded jam to preserve the shutout.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Sox added three more in the most surprising of ways -- with an Alex Rios homerun, his first at U.S. Cellular Field since mid-May! The Sox were up 9-0 at this point, but added one more for good measure, giving them double digits in runs for the first time in ages. Alejandro De Aza drove in number 10 with an RBI single, capping the scoring for the day.

Finishing 5-4 on the homestand and keeping themselves five games behind division-leading Detroit, the Sox now enjoy an off day on Monday before flying out to SoCal for a brief two-game series against the Los Angeles Angels. It'll be an epic pitching matchup with Ervin Santana (9-9, 3.12 ERA) going for the Angels and fellow no-hit pitcher Mark Buehrle (10-6, 3.14 ERA) taking the mound for the Sox. The first pitch will be at 9:05p CDT and you can watch the game on WGN.
