Danks You Very Much

August 14 vs Kansas City

Levels Finished:
Lillibridge bombed the Royals early before Sox pitching delivered the knockout punch.

Short Take:   Sox jumped out to an early lead while Danks and the bullpen took care of the Royals. Sox back to .500!

After seeing the likes of Bruce "Cy" Chen on Friday, it was starting to look like another bad home series from the Sox. KC is a team that really shouldn't be giving us problems but has. However, the Sox rebounded on Saturday and were looking to Johnny Danks to help the Sox take two of three from the Royals. Danks delivered Sunday by throwing six innings of two run ball as the Sox spotted him a 6-0 lead in beating the Royals 6-2. More importantly, the Sox are back to .500 at 60-60. Can we get above there and stay there please??

Danks (5-9) got the win after carrying a no-hitter into the sixth as the Sox offense took care of business off of Royals starter Jeff Francis.

The bulk of the Sox damage came in the bottom of the first. Alexei Ramirez was hit by a pitch and Paul Konerko followed that with a single to put men on first and third. Carlos Quentin singled in Alexei to put the Sox up 1-0. The Lillibeast, Brent Lillibridge then came up and took Francis deep for a three-run shot to put the Sox up 4-0. That was all Danks needed.

We'd eventually go up 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded, TCQ hit a sacrifice fly to plate Juan Pierre. Alex Rios finished off the scoring by hitting a sac fly of his own which scored Alexei Ramirez.

Danks lost his aforementioned no-hitter in the top of the sixth. John gave up four consecutive hits which was highlighted by a Mitch Maier single which scored Billy Butler and Jeff Francoeur to put the Royals down 6-2.

In relief of Danks, Jason Frasor, Matt Thornton, and Will Ohman all pitched an inning of scoreless relief to finish out the hapless Royals. After starting out the season 0-8, Danks is now 5-9 with a 3.95 ERA and has been one of the best pitchers in the American League over the last two months.

After an off day on Monday, Cleveland comes to town Tuesday, August 16th. Gavin Floyd (10-10, 4.53 ERA) will face Ubaldo Jimenez (7-9, 4.37 ERA). It starts at 7:10 and will be on Comcast SportNet.

Ozzio's Game Rant:
"I will win manager of the year when we win division despite me putting Kenny's boys Alex and Adam in lineup everyday."
