WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

A Diamond In The Rough

June 19 at Arizona

Levels Finished:
The Sox put the hammer down, crushing any barrels to cruise to victory.

Short Take: Konerko and Rios homer for the second time in as many days to back a stud named Humber as our Sox win 8-2.

If the saying "pitching wins championships" is something you believe in, then Phil Humber has my vote as team MVP so far. That's saying a lot since Paul Konerko has been the only consistent hitter for the Sox and is having a monster first half. Fine, maybe Humber and Konerko are co-MVP's, but whatever the case, without these two guys, the Sox are in deep trouble.

Today was no exception as Paul Konerko homered and Phil Humber went 7.2 innings scattering seven hits, two runs, five strikeouts and a walk as the Sox beat the Diamondbacks 8-2. Humber is now 7-3 with a sparkling 2.90 ERA. After losing two games to the garbage Minnesota Twins, the Sox took two of three games from Arizona this weekend for a much needed series win.

The game would stay low scoring most of the afternoon as the Sox took a 1-0 lead into the top of the seventh inning. That would change when Paulie came up and smacked his 19th homer of the year, a solo shot, to make it 2-0. After Adam Dunn struck out for the 8,940th time, Alex Rios would follow Paulie and hit a solo homer of his own to make it 3-0.

You may want to sit down before you read this, but Alex Rios actually homered for the second straight game to bring his HR total to a whopping 6. He's also had 5 RBI in the last two games to bring his season total to 20. Could he finally be getting his head out of his rear end? Man, we hope so.

The White Sox put the game well out of reach in the top of the eighth. Juan Pierre and Omar Vizquel both singled to start the inning. Alexei Ramirez would ground out to score Pierre. Brent Lillibridge singled, after Konerko drew an intentional walk, to plate Vizquel to put the Sox up 5-0. After Alex Rios reached on an error, AJ Pierzynski hit a bases clearing double to make it 8-0.

Phil Humber continued his mastery, giving up two meaningless runs in the bottom of the eighth before Sergio Santos finished the Diamondbacks off in the ninth in a non-save situation.

On Monday, June 20th the Sox return home to play the losers from the north side as interleague play continues. Carlos "We Stinks" Zambrano (5-4, 4.59 ERA) will face Gavin Floyd (6-6, 3.94 ERA). Game starts at 7:10 p.m. and can be seen on WCIU, The U!

Ozzio's Game Rant:
"I tell Alex Rios, if he don't start hitting, I'm having his named changed to Ozone, adopting him, and he'll tweet with my loser son Oney."
