Unlucky #7 for Danks

May 23, at Texas

Okay, Ogando's not your typical no-name, crappy pitcher that shuts the Sox down, but 0 runs in this park?  That's just pathetic.

Short Take:   John Danks falls to 0-7 on year after Sox blanked 4-0 in opener with AL Champs

Born under a bad sign.  Letting a black cat cross your path.  Walking under a ladder.  Being John Danks?  The Sox southpaw has been the victim of a comical string of bad luck that's culminated with this early season slump; Danks pitched pretty well tonight in Texas, holding the explosive defending AL Champs to just 4 runs, even with two of their biggest sticks, MVP Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz, both back from the disabled list and both contributing right away with homers tonight.  But, as has been the never ending story, the Sox were toothless at the plate, and became the 1st shutout victim of Alexi Ogando's career, dropping the opener of the series in Texas, 4-0.

It almost seemed insurmountable when Hamilton homered off Danks in hist 1st at bat of the game in the bottom of the 1st to put the Rangers up 1-0, and a lot of that was thanks to Ogando who was in command from the 1st to the 9th.  After Juan Pierre started the game off with a single to right field, he struck out Alexei Ramirez and Paul Konerko (sandwiched around an pop out by Adam Dunn) to close out the frame.  The Sox mustered 4 more hits the entire game, and while Ogando did issue 3 free passes, the Sox only managed to put 1 runner in scoring position all night, and even that was a gift, as A.J. Pierzynski advanced to third on a throwing error by Ian Kinsler during an infield single by Gordon Beckham (and really, the hit itself was a pretty nice gift from the official scorekeeper), but that threat was neutralized three pitches later when Juan Pierre grounded out to Ogando to end the inning.

As for Danks, he also went the distance, only 8 innings, but didn't pitch poorly against one of the better offensive teams in the A.L.  Texas scored 4 runs on 9 hits, but again, Danks was victimized by his offense that has provided him with 25 total runs of support in 10 starts now, and 7 of those came, of course, in what was arguably his worst start of the season, the soul crushing loss to Tampa in which was in line to break this ridiculous winless streak.  So, it's back to the drawing board for Danks, who currently leads the American League in losses.

The Sox and Rangers play tomorrow night in Game 2 of the series in Arlington, with Jake Peavy making his 1st start since that dominating shutout of the Indians against 24-year-old lefty Derek Holland.  The game is on Comcast Sports Net, and you can catch the action at 7:05 in Chicago.

I ****ing hate ****ing excuses for players, but will someone please score John some ****ing runs?
