WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Holy ****, We Won!

May 2nd, vs. Baltimore

Levels Finished:
5
Not the prettiest win ever, but when you do it only once per week, you have to celebrate!

Short Take:   Orioles do their best 2011 White Sox impression, threatening often, scoring rarely, and teasing with an improbable, late inning rally that comes up short.

The Sox's most recent losing streak may have only been five games, but it certainly felt like an eternity, and our reward was to watch an opponent do a perfect impression of us for a night, as Baltimore threatened all night against Mark Buehrle and the Sox, but never posed much of a threat, as the Sox built a 6-run lead and held on through a tenuous ninth inning for a 6-2 win.

Mark Buehrle pitched 6.2 innings tonight, and 5 of the 7 innings he appeared in, the Orioles had multiple base runners and consistently had guys in scoring position, but they were (by my count) 0-7 with a couple of walks with RISP tonight through Buehrle's outing, as the crafty lefty battled through 107 pitches, holding the O's scoreless for his third win of the season.

At the dish, the Sox scored early and often against Jeremy Guthrie, highlighted by Paul Konerko, who continues to be one of the few players showing up to play everyday.  Konerko went 2-3 with a pair of homers, runs, and 4 RBI on the night.  Alex Rios broke out of his slump, too, going 2-4 and jacking a solo home runs in the 7th inning.

After Konerko's 2nd home run in the bottom of the 8th made it a 6-0 game, Chris Sale was called on to close the night out but again the lanky lefty struggled, although he retired the first two men he saw in the frame, he hit Nick Markakis on a semi-questionable call (though, if you were listening to Hawk Harrelson call the action, it was the single biggest blunder since Dewey Defeats Truman) and then allowed a 2-run home run to Derrek Lee.  A single to Vladimir Guerrero and walk to Luke Scott put the tying run in the hole and necessitated Sergio Santos to throw 6 pitches to record the final out of the night, striking out Adam Jones to end the losing streak and salvage one game of this 4-game extended weekend series.

Tomorrow, the Twins come to town for the first of a quick, 2-game set.  Edwin Jackson and Francisco Liriano take the hill in a battle of struggling starters.  First pitch will be at 7:10 from U.S. Cellular Field and you can catch the action on Comcast Sports Net.

WSI's
Ozzio's Game Rant:
Everybody calm down about the Sox's slow start this season.  Look, the Bulls started slow tonight against Atlanta, and look how that went.... Oh, they lost?  ****.
