WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Unlucky 7

April 20 at Tampa Bay

The Sox just stood there and allowed the barrels to run them over.

Short Take: The whole White Sox lineup continues to stink, as the losing streak reaches seven games.

Good morning, Greg Walker.

In case you haven't noticed, every hitter in the White Sox lineup (except for Carlos Quentin) couldn't possibly stink any more if they jumped headfirst into a manure pile. Question is, what are you gonna do about it?

Juan Pierre is in a 1-for-16 slide. Gordon Beckham has five hits in his last 41 at-bats. Paul Konerko? Not much better at 5-for-32. Adam Dunn is 3-for-26 with 15 Ks. Alex Rios is 2-for-19. Alexei Ramirez is 3-for-15. I could go on, but I'll spare you the nausea.

It's no wonder the Sox have scored only nine runs in their last six games. It's no wonder the Sox have scored only two measly runs in the first three games of their current four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. It's no freakin' wonder the Sox are on a seven-game losing streak.

Anyone still want to give the White Sox hitting coach a lengthy contract extension? Let's get real. Enough is enough.

The Sox dropped their latest turd Wednesday night, a 4-1 loss to the Rays. Quentin's solo home run was the only offense. The South Siders managed just six hits off Tampa Bay right-hander Wade Davis (2-2), who is the latest pitcher to receive a hardy "tip of the cap" from Walker and the boys.

At least the Sox didn't waste a great starting pitching performance this time. Right-hander Phil Humber (1-2) was profoundly mediocre, giving up four runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings. Oh well. Dude would have needed to pitch a shutout to win anyway.

If you can stomach this crap any longer, the Sox will play the final game of this miserable four-game set Thursday night at 5:40. Gavin Floyd (1-1, 4.29 ERA) will take the mound for the Sox and let's hope he knows he has to pitch a shutout. He'll be opposed by Tampa Bay right-hander Jeff "Cy" Niemann, he of the 6.32 ERA.

Maybe the Sox can get their heads out of their asses.
