Sox Stay Hot

July 6 vs. Los Angeles Angels

Immunity:
The Bullpen
Exiled:
Alexei Ramirez and Paul Konerko

The bullpen won the game for us in allowing only 1 run. Meanwhile, TCM and Walnuts couldn't even get on base.

Short Take:Though Jake Peavy had to leave the game super-early, the bullpen did its job helping our Sox win another game against the Los Angeles Angels.

As uncomfortably hot it has been in Chicago, our Palehose have been even more uncomfortable of an opponent for whomever has faced them the past month. They have been able to find good pitching, defense, and timely hitting all at the same time. Though it took a while for Tuesday night's game to get started, with almost a two-hour rain delay, the wait was well worth it, as our Palehose beat the Angels again, this time 4-1.

The scoring started out early, as Juan Pierre lead off the game with a double, stole third, and scored on a sac fly by all star snub Alex Rios. Looking good, Sox fans? Not so, as Jake Peavy had to leave the game quite early. With two outs in the second, our starter appeared to pull a muscle in his back. Peavy immediately reported to the dugout in pain. It was reported that he didn't get out to stretch until later than he should have, so the circumstance was more understandable.

Tony Pena came in relief of Peavy and threw 4 1/3 innings of 1-run ball to get the win. His lone blemish came in the 4th when he allowed Torii Hunter to score after singling to center to lead off the inning to tie the game at one. The Sox continued pitching well, disallowing Los Angeles any more runs.

Rios broke the deadlock in the 6th with a solo shot to left. The Sox tripled their lead the next frame when Andruw Jones hit a no-doubter to left center, and Dayan Viciedo followed with a single, advanced to third, and scored as well.

JJ Putz, Matt Thornton, and Bobby Jenks each threw scoreless frames, which allowed the Sox to stay on top of the Halos. Jenks recorded his 18th save of the season (and his first save since completing the sweep against Atlanta on June 24th). The Hot Sox look to continue their recent dominance. Joe Saunders vs. Freddy Garcia on Wednesday night. Same time, same place, different channel (CSN).

WSI's
TBGR Diary:
I think Tony Pena pitched well considering he had to be used much longer than a typical middle relief pitcher would be used. He could possibly be used as a spot-starter in a pinch if necessary.

Tony Pena, JJ Putz, Matt Thornton, Bobby Jenks

Though they had to pitch for an unusual 7 1/3 innings, they gave up a combined 1 run. Not bad!
