Can we play the Pirates more often?

June 16 at Pittsburgh

Immunity:
Carlos Quentin
Exiled:
Gordon Beckham

Quentin had an RBI single and an RBI double tonight. The Sox need more of that from him. Bacon left five runners on base in an 0-for-4 performance.

Short Take:The Sox get good pitching from John Danks and take advantage of six Pittsburgh errors to earn their second straight win in the Steel City.

Maybe the White Sox should petition Bud Selig to let them move to the National League. What could it hurt? The South Siders improved to 6-2 against crummy NL competition with a 7-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday at PNC Park.

With the win, the Sox have won seven of their last nine games and own an impressive 30-14 mark in Interleague play since 2008.

Sox lefty John Danks (6-5) picked up his second consecutive victory as he limited the Pirates to just two runs on four hits over eight innings. Danks struck out six and walked three.

The Sox pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of six Pittsburgh errors. The hit parade started in the fourth inning. After Pirates starter Zach Duke (3-8) faced the minimum number of batters through three, the Sox turned the tables the second time through the batting order.

The first five men reached base in the fourth inning on four hits and a walk. Alexei Ramirez had an RBI triple and Alex Rios and Carlos Quentin delivered RBI singles to put the Sox up 3-0.

After the Pirates got one run back in the fifth, the Sox added two in the sixth. Paul Konerko had an RBI single and scored on a booming double to right-center by Quentin. The ball just missed leaving the ballpark. Nevertheless, the Sox held a comfortable 5-1 lead after six.

Danks gave up a solo home run to Pittsburgh rookie Jose Tabata in the eighth, but the Sox put the game away for good with a pair of unearned runs in the ninth. The Pirates showed why they are in last place by committing four errors in the frame. That's fine. We'll take charity. Can we play these guys more often?

Tony Pena worked a scoreless ninth inning in relief of Danks to secure the win.

The Sox go for the sweep Thursday night. Mark Buehrle (4-6, 4.93 ERA) takes the hill for the South Siders. He'll be opposed by right-hander Ross Ohlendorf (0-4, 4.95 ERA).

WSI's
TBGR Diary:
This Pittsburgh team is poor. The Sox really need to win tomorrow and sweep the Pirates.
