Hey, the Sox Won Tonight, Too

June 9, vs. Detroit

Immunity:
Everyone
Exiled:
Nobody

Win-starved Sox unload on Tigers.  Just save some runs for the next few games, guys.

Short Take:   Sox save their best performance of season for a night when nobody's watching.

No offense to the truly diehard White Sox fans out there who were tuned in for every pitch of Wednesday night's 15-3 beating of the Tigers, but it's safe to say the greater Chicagoland area was a bit preoccupied with the Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks overtime win in Philadelphia.  You missed a hell of a game, as the Sox exploded for a pair of 7-run innings, highlighted by homers from  and Ramon Castro and Brent Lillibridge (edit: Not a typo).

Freddy Garcia continued his run as the Sox most consistent, best starter with 7 strong innings, though he did allow a pair of home runs, but by the time the Tigers got to him for their biggest inning of the night, a 2-run 6th, the Sox were already up comfortably with more to come off a beleaguered Tigers bullpen.

Castro and Lillibridge were the stars for the night, as noted.  Each hit 3-rum bombs, Castro in the 4th and Lillibridge in the 8th, but everywhere the Sox were getting positive offensive contributions from every corner of the lineup.  Alexei Ramirez, maybe read to bust out of his usual early season funk, was 1-3 with a home run to start the Sox scoring in the 3rd and from there, they poured it on.  Paul Konerko, Mark Kotsay, and Omar Vizquel all had RBI hits in the frame and Castro, Vizquel, and Juan Pierre all drove in runs in the 8th.  Hell, even Randy Williams looked good, allowing just a single in a scoreless frame of relief, though, that did come with a 12-run lead.  But when it rains, it pours, and after so many disappointing nights when they found every possible way to lose, it was nice to see the Pale Hose channel their inner Dustin Byfuglien and throw a team into the boards like they were a fading Canadian defenseman.

Weekday afternoon baseball returns to the Cell today, as the Sox and Tigers square off in the rubber match of their series at 1:05 PM today.  John Danks totes the rubber for the Sox against Max Scherzer.  With the city captivated in Blackhawks fever for the next few days, and a road trip to the North Side just around the corner, it sure would be nice to wake up from our champagne-fueled hangover later this weekend on a nice little winning streak.  Is that too much to ask?

WSI's
TBGR Diary:
Sox haven't scored more than 15 runs in a 3-game series all year.  So tonight was nice.  Too bad you probably weren't watching.

Ramon Castro

2-4 night punctuated by his 3-run bomb in the 4th that really put this one in the bag.  Could have gone to just about anyone in the lineup.
