Every Dog Has Its Day

June 3 vs. Texas

Freddy Garcia
Jayson Nix

There were a few people worthy of immunity, but it goes to Freddy Garcia. Despite giving up three runs, he leads the staff with wins now. Jayson Nix gets exiled for no other reason than he struck out twice in three at-bats. Had Carlos Quentin not been the pick to click, he'd be exiled for that error.

Short Take:   But today, Texas, just ain't yours.

Fireworks would have gone off three times today if it wasn't Dog Day, as the White Sox beat the Texas Rangers 4-3. With plenty of adorable dogs in attendance, starter Freddy Garcia picked up his fifth win of the season, and the Sox brought their record to 23-30.

Garcia looked sharp despite giving up three runs. Only two were earned, as David Murphy scored on a Justin Smoak single. Murphy reached base on an error by Carlos Quentin. Garcia looked to have a little trouble in the fifth. Craig Gentry singled to lead off the inning and eventually came around to score on a Michael Young ground-rule double. That was the only damage done that inning, but the Rangers would score one more run in the sixth. Garcia walked Justin Smoak who moved to third on a Matt Treanor double. Gentry would bat him in on a sacrifice fly to Alex Rios, and that run gave Texas the lead temporarily. Garcia went seven innings before being relieved by Matt Thornton and Bobby Jenks, who picked up his eighth save. Both relievers looked good, which is great to see from Jenks.

The Sox got on the board in the second inning. Andruw Jones hit his tenth home run of the season to center field. In the sixth, Rios hit his twelfth home run, and in the seventh after an AJ Pierzynski double, Quentin hit his seventh homer. Not exactly Ozzie ball, but I'll take it. There was one instance of Ozzie ball. Juan Pierre singled in the bottom of the third and stole second with Omar Vizquel batting.

It was nice to have a difficult time deciding who should be granted immunity and who should be exiled. All but three batters had a hit, and Pierre and Pierzynski each had two. This probably sounds like a broken record, but maybe the bats are starting to wake up. Only time will tell.

Could this be the start of a winning streak? Maybe. Cleveland comes to town for a three-game series. Lefty John Danks looks for his fifth win and faces righty Justin Masterson who is still looking for his first win of the season. You can catch the game on Comcast Sportsnet at 7:10pm.

TBGR Diary:
It kinda boggles my mind that Freddy Garcia leads the staff in wins. But I'm definitely glad he's pitching well since most of the rest of the staff doesn't know how to do that right now.
