Danks Pitched Better Than You Played

May 6 vs. Toronto

Sergio Santos
Gordon Beckham

Santos set a franchise record for consecutive scoreless appearances at the start of a career tonight. Beckham went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and committed two errors.

Short Take:   Danks pitches another gem as Sox hitters can't provide him with run support

John Danks pitched excellently yet again, but as has been the case more often than not, the White Sox couldn't provide any run support, losing 2-0 to Dana freaking Eveland and the Toronto Blue Jays.

The pathetic offense mustered only two hits off Eveland. The only reason the Sox added another hit was because Alex Rios was awarded a double when three Blue Jays were unable to catch a pop up. How that happened is a mystery to yours truly. Eveland walked four, and the Sox were still unable to do anything constructive.

Trying to find something good from this offense is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. No one was hitting when it counted. Hell, no one was hitting at all. Rios seemed to look the best at the plate, despite only getting that one hit that should probably have been ruled an error. Juan Pierre and Alexei Ramirez were the only other two to get on base, and that lead to a whole bunch of nothing.

Danks looked great again but picked up his first loss. In seven innings, he threw seven strikouts, more than all three Blue Jays pitchers combined. He walked two, and despite giving up the two runs, his ERA is still under two. You would think with a performance like that, he could get a win.

Sergio Santos and Tony Pena came on in relief of Danks. Santos set a franchise record for consecutive scoreless appearances at the start of a career when he finished the eighth inning without allowing a hit and striking out two. Pena came on and gave up a hit but was able to get out of the inning without allowing a run to score.

Mark Buehrle takes the mound tomorrow night as the 12-17 White Sox face Shaun Marcum at 7:10pm on CSN+. Here's hoping they can start hitting again.

TBGR Diary:
When the highlight of the game for me is the idiot who ran on the field, you know something is wrong. Beckham needs something. Being lower in the lineup, a trip to Charlotte. I don't know, but whatever it is needs to happen quickly.

Definitely could have fielded better than Beckham tonight. And would have hit better than the whole lineup as well.
