Blu-Rays!

April 20 vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Exiled:
Juan Pierre

Led off four times and never got on base.

Immunity:
Alex Rios
Heads-up play gave the Good Guys the lead.

Short Take:   Johnny Danks turns in a masterful performance, giving up two hits through eight innings!

Kinda scary to be writing a recap in April that feels like a playoff game. But this one did. And when the smoke cleared, the Rays had suffered their first road loss of the season. Nice!!! Sox 4, Rays 1.

But the game didnít start off all that well. True, John Danks struck out the first batter, but then Carl Crawford (who needs to go away) went yard on the first pitch of his at-bat. The next two batters went quietly, but our Sox were already in a 0-1 hole. Good part was that it didnít last long. In the bottom of the first with two out, Carlos Quentin worked a walk, then came home on a double by Paul Konerko. Then in the third, Alex Rios tripled to deep center, then came around to score on a throwing error. In the bottom of the fourth, the Sox mounted a threat with the bases loaded and only one out, but failed to score. After four, it was Sox 2-Rays 1.

It continued to be Danksís night as he mowed down his opponents, preserving his one-hitter until the sixth inning when Carl Crawford (him again) got an infield single. Didnít matter, though. The Good Guys still led 2-1 and they stretched the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth with a lead-off homer off the bat of Andruw Jones. And in the bottom of the eighth, a lead-off homer by Paul Konerko made it 4-1.

Bad Bobby Jenks came in to pitch the ninth and gave up a single to Carl Crawford (who really needs to GO AWAY!), but closed it out, and the Sox took the first game of the series. Theyíll look to repeat tomorrow when Mark Buehrle faces Wade Davis. Game time: 7:20 Central.

WSI's
TBGR Diary:
Obviously, when the Sox play the Rays, they need to figure out a way to neutralize Carl Crawford. Maybe take him out for some really good pizza?
