WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

He is THE Carlos Quentin

April 14 at Toronto

Immunity:
John Danks
Exiled:
Mark Kotsay

Danks was really on top of his game tonight. His changeup was working well. Neither of the two hits he allowed was hit hard. Great outing. Hard to find someone who didn't contribute to this win, but Kotsay was 0-for-5.

Short Take: Carlos Quentin hits a grand slam and knocks in six runs to back an excellent pitching performance from John Danks.

If the White Sox are going to make a push this year, a healthy and productive Carlos Quentin is essential to their hopes. On Wednesday night in Toronto, Quentin continued a pretty solid start to his season with two bigs hits - a grand slam in the fifth inning and a two-run double in the sixth - to pace a 15-hit attack in the South Siders' resounding 11-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

With the Sox already leading 3-0, Quentin took an inside fastball from Toronto starter Brendan Morrow (0-1) and roped it over the wall in left field to break the game wide open at 7-0. The Sox tacked on another four runs in the sixth, highlighted by Quentin's double, to take a commanding 11-1 lead. After a week filled with heart-stopping close games, Sox fans were finally able to enjoy a laugher with the outcome already decided by the time the late innings arrived.

Sox starter John Danks (1-0) was dominant. After issuing a four-pitch walk to the first hitter of the game, he retired 10 consecutive batters and allowed just one run on two hits over seven innings. He struck out six and walked three. Tony Pena mopped up with two innings of perfect relief.

Quentin wasn't the only Sox hitter who turned in a strong performance. Andruw Jones continued his hot hitting with a solo home run in the second inning to get the Sox started. The veteran outfielder finished with three hits. Gordon Beckham had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Both Juan Pierre and A.J. Pierzynski showed signs of breaking out of early-season slumps. Each man had two hits, and Pierzynski came through with a two-out RBI single in the fourth.

The Sox have won two of the first three games in this four-game set. They will go for the series win Thursday night. Freddy Garcia (0-1, 2.57 ERA) will pitch for the South Siders. His mound opponent will be left-hander Dana Eveland (1-0, 0.00 ERA). The game will air on Comcast SportsNet at 6 p.m.

WSI's
TBGR Diary:
Finally, some offense! It's good to see the team have a laugher. I've been gnawing my fingernails down to their bloody stubs with all these close games early on.
