WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Only Nine More Games Of This Crap

Sept. 23 vs. Minnesota

KW's Daily Special:
Kill me now.

Short Take:The Sox continued their trip on an express elevator straight to hell with another loss to Minnesota.

First, the good news: Jermaine Dye hit two home runs. He went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, which is pretty damn good considering he had no homers and only two RBIs the first 22 days of this month. Not that Dye's monster game mattered. The Sox lost 8-6 to the Minnesota Twins and took their next step toward mathematical elimination Wednesday night.

Thanks to Detroit's 11-3 win over Cleveland, the Sox now sit nine games out with nine games to play. Their tragic number is two. One more loss and the Sox are officially toast. Not that they care.

Sox left-hander Mark Buehrle (12-10) pitched terrible Wednesday night. He gave up five runs, four earned, and got knocked out of the box in the top of the fourth inning. The Sox found themselves in an early 5-0 hole.

Surprisingly enough, the Sox battled back. They scored one in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth on Dye's first blast of the night, which cut the deficit to 5-4.

Signs of a pulse? Ha! That little comeback was just false hope. Reliever Carlos Torres coughed up three more runs in the seventh and Minnesota stretched its lead out to 8-4. That was all the Twins needed.

Dye added another two-run shot in the eighth to make things a little more interesting. The Sox got two men on in the ninth, too, and brought the potential winning run to the plate. False hope again. Alexei Ramirez popped out against Minnesota closer Joe Nathan to end the game.

Next up, an off day. (Thank God!) The Tigers come in Friday night. Freddy Garcia (2-3, 4.01 ERA) goes for the Sox. Nate Robertson (2-2, 5.13 ERA) is pitching for Detroit. If the Sox lose, it's officially over.

Critic's Corner:
The Sox are mailing it in, and so am I.
