Sox Win 7th in a row

July 3 at Kansas City

KW's Daily Special:
Boiled Goose Eggs
Danks pitches a beautiful shutout with no walks. All zeros on the menu tonight.

Short Take:  John Danks pitches spectacular shut-out ball as the Sox continue to roll on an undefeated road trip while notching their 14th win in their last 18 games.

After the White Sox made last year’s AL Cy Young Award Winner, Cliff Lee, look terrible three days ago, nobody expected them to do the same to this year’s leading Cy Young candidate. The Sox have been on a roll over the past few weeks though, and Friday night was no exception. The Sox went after Zach Greinke early and capitalized on several Royals’ mistakes to give John Danks all the run support he would need. Behind a solid offensive attack, a tremendous effort by Danks and a little help from the pen, the Sox crowned the Royals by a score of 5-0.

The White Sox drew first blood in the top of the 2nd on AJ Pierzynski’s 9th homer of the season. In the 3rd, they tacked on two more. Scott Podsednik led off the inning with a double, followed by a walk to Jermaine Dye. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Jim Thome beat the shift when his routine grounder slipped under the glove of KC 2nd bagger Alberto Callaspo, scoring Pods on the play. Paul Konerko came up next and doubled into the right field corner, scoring JD to give the Good Guys a 3-0 lead.

In the 5th, the White Sox took a 4-0 lead. DeWayne Wise, fighting for a role on this team with TCQ’s imminent return on the horizon, singled in Gordon Beckham who had reached with a one-out double. Zach Greinke was pulled after the 6th, but the Sox definitely did their damage as his ERA finally reached 2.00 on the season. In the 7th, the Sox would add one more insurance run as Jim Thome drove in Scotty Pods (3-for-4 on the night with two runs) after he reached on a walk.

John Danks was brilliant on the night, pitching 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball. Danks scattered five hits, with no walks, but needed a little help in the bottom of the 8th from the Sox bullpen. After KC loaded the bases on a couple of soft singles and an error by Jayson Nix, Scott Linebrink came in for Danks to get a huge double-play and get out of the inning. Linebrink closed the game out in the 9th and actually recorded a save since the tying run was on deck in the 8th.

Credit Danks with the victory (7-6), Greinke with the loss (10-4), and Linebrink with the save (#2). The Sox are rolling like they haven’t rolled since early 2006. We go for our 8th in a row tomorrow afternoon in KC with a 12:10pm start on CSN. Go Sox!

WSI's
Critic's Corner:
Four Stars! With solid starting pitching and a hot offense, this team is looking well-rounded!
