WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

At least Beckham got called up tonight

June 3 vs. Oakland A's

KW's Daily Special:
Hope for the future!
Nothing good today, but the savior arrives tomorrow!

Short Take: Stop me if you've heard this one before: The Sox got owned by a rookie pitcher.

Quick! What do Brad Bergesen, Brett Cecil, Robert Ray and Vin Mazzaro have in common? Of course, they are all rookie pitchers who made it look easy against the White Sox lineup. You can add Josh Outman's name to that list, as he pitched the Oakland A's to a 5-3 victory over the South Siders Wednesday night at U.S. Cellular Field.

Jermaine Dye touched up Outman with a two-run homer in the first to give the Sox an early 2-0 lead, but it was all downhill from there.

Amazingly enough, the Oakland hitters seemed unfazed by the fact that they were facing Sox lefty Clayton Richard (2-1) for the first time. Richard walked the first two men he faced in the second inning. Three singles later, those two men had scored and the game was tied at 2-2.

Then, the A's took a page from the Sox handbook and started hitting solo home runs. Bobby Crosby and Landon Powell (who the hell is Landon Powell?) went back-to-back in the fourth. Roider Jason Giambi tacked another Oakland run on with a solo shot in the fifth.

The Sox were behind 5-3 at that point and never staged a serious comeback threat against Outman (3-0), Cubbie reject Michael Wuertz or Andrew Bailey, who picked up his third save of the season.

About the only good news for the Sox tonight? Top prospect Gordon Beckham has been called up to take the roster spot of worthless Wilson Betemit.

The Sox will try to gain a series split tomorrow afternoon. It's Mark Buehrle (6-1, 2.71 ERA) against yet another Oakland rookie, Brett Anderson (2-5, 5.70 ERA).

WSI's
Critic's Corner:
No stars, but we hope a future star is getting ready to join the team.
