Sox Hold On To Game, Division Lead

September 10 vs. Toronto Blue Jays

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
Crack
Sox bats take care of one of the best pitchers in the game. Jerry Owens is also useful for once!

Short Take:   Seemingly easy win almost takes a turn for the worst. But, Jenks holds on for the 6-5 win!

The Sox had two things going against them tonight. One, Roy Halladay was taking the mound for the Blue Jays who have owned the Sox this season. Two, Ozzie Guillen's worst enemy, Phil Cuzzi was the home plate umpire for tonight's game. But, Mark Buehrle had none of it. Buehrle was simply brilliant tonight shutting down a Blue Jay team that has taken the Sox to school the past two games. The Sox bats came through with big hits off Halladay, none of which left the ballpark.

The Sox took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning. Dewayne Wise singled with one out, next batter Jermaine Dye walked putting runners on first and second for Jim Thome. Thome singled scoring Wise, two batters later, A.J. Pierzynski won a battle with Halladay singling to center field scoring Dye.

It stayed 2-0 Sox through five innings. In the sixth, the Sox got to Halladay again. Thome led off with a single, then advanced to third on Alexi Ramirez's double. A.J., again, battled with Halladay at the plate but was able to rip a double down the right field line giving the Sox a 4-0 lead. Two batters later with one out, Juan Uribe singled putting runners on the corners for Jerry Owens. The often bashed AAA player put down a perfect bunt for the squeeze play scoring A.J. giving the Sox a nice 5-0 lead. Unfortunately, the nice play probably gave Owens a weeks worth of starts. But the play was a thing of beauty...

Buehrle held the Blue Jays scoreless through seven innings. After a one out walk to Jose Bautista, Ozzie pulled Mark who received a standing ovation from the 26,000+ in attendance.

Those cheers quickly turned into a hostile booing when Dotel came in and surrendered a two run home run to Alex Rios and then a single to Vernon Wells. Luckily, Dotel induced a double play to end the inning.

Brian Anderson drove what would be a huge sixth run for the Sox in their half of the eighth inning making it a 6-2 Sox lead going to the ninth. Bobby Jenks came out to end the game but make things very nerve racking. After a Gregg Zaun strike out, Jenks gave up a single, walk, single, double, and run scoring ground out, putting the Blue Jays tying run on third base with two outs. Hot hitter Alex Rios couldn't solve Jenks though, as he struck out to end the game.

The 6-5 win puts the Sox at 81-64 keeping their one game A.L. Central lead on the Minnesota Twins who also won tonight. Tomorrow, Gavin Floyd will try and lend his hand to split this four game series with the talented Blue Jays. Game time is 7:11pm and is televised on Comcast SportsNet Plus.

WSI's
Quest For the Final Table Update:
All six runs were scored without the long ball. Sox stay in first place!
