Nothing in the Dank

September 2 @ Cleveland Injuns

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
Jack Benny
The score says it all. This one said "suit mis-match" from the beginning.

Short Take:Even after an extra day's rest, John Danks had his second bad outing in as many starts, lasting only four innings, as the Tribe tripled up our Sox.

Chicago's Morton Salt company's slogan pretty much sums up the action during tonight's game at The Jake in Cleveland: "When it rains, it pours." Starting pitcher John Danks felt it. Relievers DJ Carrasco, Octavio Dotel, and Boone Logan felt it. For all but one inning, our offense felt it (possibly TCQ's late scratch from the lineup due to a sore hand had something to do with it, Jerry Owens getting his first start of the season as a result). Cleveland scored early and poured it on near the end in an ugly, ugly 9-3 victory over our Sox.

The Tribe put a pair of runs up on the board in both the second and fourth frames. In the second, Victor Martinez hit his first home run of the season following a walk to "I've got a lame name" Peralta. In the fourth, Andy Marte and Asdrubal Cabrera hit back-to-back singles and were knocked in on a two-bagger by Franklin Gutierrez. Suddenly, tonight's game appeared to be headed down the same road as last night's, with our Sox trailing 4-nil after four innings.

Our Palehose's bats decided to make a cameo appearance in tonight's show during the sixth. With Jermaine Dye and Big Jim at the corners, they both advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch by Tribe starter Fausto Carmona, scoring our first run since Sunday afternoon. After Paulie Walnuts singled, the Dirty 30 sacrificed in Big Jim to trim the Cleveland lead in half. Hawk Harrelson luvs crooked numbers, so Juan Uribe (pinch-hitting for Joe Crede) doubled off the left field wall, scoring Walnuts. Suddenly, this was a game! Our Sox only trailed 4-3.

Tom Skilling reported that storms are headed our way soon; but, he did not forecast them to come as early as the seventh inning. Drowning out the Palehose's chances of making a comeback, the Tribe poured it on adding a five-spot to the scoreboard. When it rains, it truly does pour. Unfortunately, our Sox did not pack a generator for their offense tonight to get them out of trouble, as their bats were pretty silent the rest of the night. Amidst all of the clouds in the stormy skies is one ray of sunlight: the Twinkies blew a 5-1 lead and lost to the Jays, meaning we're still tied for first place even after our basement totally flooded tonight! There is plenty of time for our Sox to start taking charge of this division. Tomorrow would be a great time to do just that, as Javy Vazquez tows the rubber against Jeremy Sowers. Same place, different channel (WGN), different time (11:05 am).

WSI's
Quest For the Final Table Update:
We're lucky Toronto got it going tonight in comeback fashion, taking down the Twinkies...Still tied atop the division.
