Sox being the Sox, Royals being the Royals!

July 9 at Kansas City Royals

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
Royal Flush
Cliche, yes...

Short Take:   Vazquez blows, but the Sox come up with another win!

Just how do they do it? Some how, some way the Sox have been finding ways to win in games that early on have looked to be chalking up to losses. For the second game in a row, the Sox found themselves in a early hole. Backed by two home runs off the bat of Carlos Quentin and a typical Royal screw up, the Sox came out with the 7-6 win!

The Sox should invest in a way to brain wash Javier Vazquez into thinking he's on a last place team. For some reason he doesn't feel comfortable pitching for a contender and after last Thursday's stellar outing, it showed again. Vazquez walked the first Royal hitter of the game. Next batter Mark Avilas singled putting two runners on to start the Royals night. Alex Gordon knocked in David DeJesus with a single to give the Royals a 1-0 lead, still putting runners on first and third with no outs. To Javy's credit, he kept damage minimal in the first. He got Jose Guillen to ground into a double play which scored another run to make it 2-0 Royals.

The Royals weren't done. They scored a run in the second inning off a sac fly, scored two more with two outs in the third inning off a Ross Gload bloop single giving the Royals a 5-0 lead.

Carlos Quentin put the Sox back in the game with a two run home run off Brian Bannister to make it a 5-2 game. The Royals responded the very next inning, though. John Buck hit a solo home run in the fourth inning putting the Royals back up by four with a 6-2 lead.

That's when the Royals fun ended though. Carlos Quentin, again in the sixth, hit a two run homer to put the Sox down by two, 6-4. Vazquez came out in the sixth but got into trouble again and Ozzie yanked him with two runners on and two outs. Boone Logan came on and struck out David DeJesus setting up the Sox comeback.

Two batters after Jim Thome led off the seventh inning with a walk, Alexei Ramirez split the left center field gap scoring a slow moving Thome from first base putting the Sox down 6-5. In the eighth inning, Jim Thome tied the game with a RBI single scoring Orlando Cabrera and moving Carlos Quentin, who walked, into third. Sticking with their script, the Royals found a way to lose tonight's game. While pitching to Paul Konkero with two outs, Ramon Ramirez balked in the winning run in Carlos Quentin just before he struck out Konerko.

Octavio Dotel came on and pitched a flawless 10-pitch 9th inning for the save getting Vazquez off the hook for his piss poor effort tonight and making a case to close out games while Jenks is on the DL.

What a nice two comeback wins the Sox have put together these past two days in K.C. What makes them even sweeter, the Twins have been being pounded by ESPN's love child, the Boston Red Sox. With the Sox win tonight, our record stands at 53-37 with a 3 1/2 game lead in the A.L. Central. Tomorrow Mark Buehrle will try and lend his helping hands to a road sweep of the Royals! Game time is 7:10pm and the game is televised on Comcast SportsNet.

WSI's
Quest For the Final Table Update:
The Sox bats have been doing a nice job of picking up shaky pitching. A nice way to return the favor to the pitching staff who picked up the pathetic offense early in the season.
