Gavin's Golden

July 5 vs. Oakland Athletics

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
A pair of Aces
Floyd dominated on the mound and Alexei Ramirez dazzled at the dish.

Short Take:   Gavin Floyd continued his excellent starting pitching, throwing yet another quality start, and his offense helped him out with a six run effort.

This was an absolutely gorgeous evening for baseball- the sky was a bright sapphire blue, the wind was blowing ever so lightly, and the temperature was in the mid-70s. FOrtunately for Sox fans, their team was also near perfect tonight, thanks to excellent starting and relief pitching, and timely hitting. 35,586 fans were treated to great fireworks throughout the night, thanks to a 6-1 White Sox winner!

Gavin Floyd was beyond awesome out there, working around a walk and striking out the side for three of his six strikeouts to begin the ballgame. It took the Sox's offense a little while to get going but once they did, it was a sight to behold. With two out in the bottom of the second, Nick Swisher went yard, depositing one into the Sox's bullpen for the quick 1-0 lead.

Three innings later, the Sox's bats went to work again. Orlando Cabrera led off the inning with a single, and Brian Anderson brought him home on his two-run shot, giving the Sox a 3-0 lead. Just an inning later, Nick Swisher walked to begin the inning. It was hook time for Greg Smith, so Alexei Ramirez had to face Chad Gaudin. It didn't seem to bother him though, as he got one of his three hits here, moving Swisher to second. After Toby Hall flew out to center, Orlando Cabrera's two-run double plated both Swisher and Ramirez, putting the Sox in control, 5-0. Just for good measure, the Cuban Missile went deep off A's reliever, Andrew Brown for a 6-0 lead.

Just went it looked as though the Sox would notch a shut-out win, things changed. Enter Scott Linebrink, who tried to follow Matt Thornton's scoreless 2/3 innings, but failed to do so. Former Sox, Ryan Sweeney led off the ninth inning with a solo homerun, erasing the shut-out. It didn't matter, though because Sox fans went home happy, as their team held onto their one game lead in the American League Central.

Tomorrow afternoon, the Sox will be in search of a series split with the A's and look to finish up their homestand with an 8-2 record. John Danks (5-4) will go head-to-head against the unbeaten Rich Harden (5-0). The first pitch is set 1:05p CDT and the game will be broadcast on WGN.

WSI's
Quest For the Final Table Update:
A winning hand was definitely seen at the ballpark tonight, thanks to Gavin Floyd.
