WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Not Good

June 11 at Detroit Tigers

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

KW's Hole Cards:
Laying an egg in Detroit isn't a way to follow up a perfect homestand.

Short Take: Vazquez gives up plenty of runs, Sox only get one.

So after some Sox fans got high over a seven game winning streak that took the Sox to a 6 1/2 game lead in the AL Central, the team that made so many giddy with a division championship in the back of their minds has now lost two in a row to a Tiger team that has massively underachieved SO FAR this season. Tonight, Javier Vazquez couldn't pitch over a mistake in the infield and had his second shaky outing giving up five runs in six innings of work in Detroit's 5-1 win over our still first place Sox.

Simply put, the Sox have just got beat these past two games. The Tigers have hit, pitched, and have made the plays while the Sox have done anything but play like the team we saw last week. Justin Verlander seemed to have figure the Sox out. He finally realized that the Sox can bust up a fastball. So what does he do? Throw a bunch of change ups. Yeah, they'll shut this team down.

Marcus Thames launched a three run home run off Vazquez in the second inning to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. The home run came after Vazquez couldn't get Miguel Cabrera out after Cabrera fouled off plenty of pitches and was walked on a questionable pitch called a ball and then a misplay in the infield when Alexei Ramirez made a nice play to get ball going through a hole, but Orlando Cabrera couldn't catch the throw by Ramirez setting up two runners on for Thames.

The Sox got a their lone run in the top half of the fourth inning when Orlando Cabrera led off with a double down the third base line and then scored on a A.J. Pierzysnki single. Pierzynski was thrown out when he tried to stretch his single into a double. That was all the Sox could muster up. The Carlos Quentin grounded out. Then Jim Thome flew out to end the inning. . The Tigers countered that in their half on a Magglio Ordonez RBI single that made it 4-1 Tigers. In the sixth, the Tigers put the game away with one more run off Vazquez when Carlos Guillen tripled to score Placido Polanco from first base.

Ugh. So the Sox find themselves in a must win position. You don't want to get swept by the Tigers, folks. Mark Buehlre and Kenny Rodgers pitch tomorrow for the 12:05pm game. The game is televised on Comcast SportsNet.

Quest For the Final Table Update:
The Tigers are not a team the Sox want to wake up if they want to make the postseason this year.
