Extra Inning Victory!

June 4 vs. Kansas City Royals

"These ain't your daddy's White Sox... We're going to keep going after a championship as aggressively as we can."

Hand of Kings!
Alexei Ramirez showing his glove! Thome & Konerko finally contributing!

Short Take:   Konerko's usual one hit of the game wins it in the 15th!

It wasn't how you would script it, but the Sox finally came away with their 32nd win of 2008 after a two run, walk off home run off the bat of Paul Konerko for the 6-4 Sox win.

After last night's nine run outburst against KC pitching, you wouldn't be wrong to wonder how the Sox would respond to Royal starter Luke Hochevar. Actually up until the fourth inning, Hochevar seemed like he was going to have his way with Sox hitters. But tonight would be a different night on the South Side. After two solo home runs off the bats of Miguel Olivo in the second and Mark Teahen in the fourth, the Sox bats came alive. Jim Thome absolutely crushed a offering 464 feet to dead center field tying the game at two. In the fifth inning, the Sox took a 3-2 lead on Joe Crede's lead off solo home run.

The Sox added another run in the sixth for good measure on a two out Joe Crede RBI doubled that scored Nick Swisher from first base making it 4-2. The ball was handed to Bobby Jenks in the ninth for the save. Things didn't go so smoothly for Jenks tonight. John Buck and Alberto Callaspo started the inning with back to back singles and then advanced into scoring positon on Esteban German's sac bunt. Sox-killer David DeJesus singled up the middle to tie the game at four, thus giving Jenks the blown save.

The Royals wouldn't do anymore damage thanks to the six strong innings the bullpen pitched in extras. Jenks recovered nicely in the 10th and turned the ball over to Boone Logan and Octavio Dotel who kept the Royal hitters in check along with some great defense by Alexei Ramirez.

All of the excitement held off until the bottom of the 15th inning. Jimmy Gobble did his best Jimmy Gobble impression tonight by serving up a two run walk off home run to the struggling Paul Konerko. The few fans that stayed through the extra innings and on and off rain witnessed the second walk off win in the last three home games.

With the series win wrapped up the Sox will look to sweep the KC Royals tomorrow night at 7:11pm. Jose Contreras will take the mound against Gil Meche. The game is televised on Comcast SportsNet

Quest For the Final Table Update:
The two guys we need most to contribute in Thome & Konerko did their jobs. One guy tied the game, one guy won the game!
