WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Welcome to Last Place

August 17 at Seattle Mariners

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
Dog Manure
Why, Jose? Why?!?!

Short Take:Jose Contreras once again proves that it's time to hang it up in falling behind early. Danny Richar provided us with the lone bright point in a 5-4 defeat at Safeco Field in Seattle.

Once again, Jose Contreras had an opportunity to get back on the right track during a downright abysmal season for him. Once again, Contreras displayed to Sox fans why it's time for him to hang it up. Contreras fell way behind during the first half of the game, and our Sox bats couldn't quite get it all back, as our beloved dropped their sixth game in a row, this time 5-4 to the Seattle Mariners.

The M's would score their runs in the first, third, and fifth innings. In the initial frame, Sox killer Raul Ibanez hit a two-run blast to right. The next two Mariner runs would be knocked in by Jose Vidro, both on sac flies to left (scoring Ichiro Suzuki in the third and Yuniesky Betancourt in the fifth). Providing the M's with what eventually made the difference, Adrian Beltre knocked in Jose Guillen in that same fifth inning.

The lone gleaming portion of the game came in the top of the seventh, as Mariner pitching walked the bases loaded, allowing Danny Richar to hit his first major league home run granny-style. One can only wonder how many players have hit their first major league home run in that way. Too bad, our beloved weren't able to tack on any more runs. Let's hope that our Palehose can get at least ONE victory this week, as John Danks tussels with Jeff Weaver. The game can be seen on WGN at 9 pm.

These Sox forgot the meaning of the word "grind."
