WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Wednesday Fun

July 18 at Cleveland Indians

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
7-bone steak
Everything works...for once.

Short Take: For once, the bullpen doesn't blow the game.

While most Sox fans were at work for today's early game, Mark Buerhle was doing his job flawlessly. He lowered his ERA to under 3 this afternoon pitching 6 1/3 innings scattering 10 hits and only giving up a run to a Cleveland team that is fighting at the top of the A.L. Central and a team our Sox could've easily swept. Today's 5-1 win over the Tribe gives us our first series win since the Royals series back the last weekend of June.

Buehrle got help from the "O" too. Sox bats did their job today scoring four runs off Jake Westbrook. With already a 1-0 lead in the third, Paul Konerko added two more on a two run home run to put our little achievers up 3-0. Rob Mackowiak and Jermaine Dye hit back to back doubles that added one more making it 4-0 Sox.

After the Indians scored a run in the seventh inning, Buehrle was taken out of the game with two men on base. Buerhle would watch in horror from the bench as Matt Thorton came on in "relief." Well today, everybody did their jobs. Thorton ended the inning on a double play ball off the bat of Victor Martinez. The Sox added another "just in case" run in the eighth to help the cause, making it 5-1 Sox.

Charlie Haegar worked the final two innings, and, gasp... didn't give up any runs! HOLY ****! The 5-1 win puts the Sox at 42-51 and on a flight to Boston to face the A.L. East leading Boston Red Sox for four games. Tomorrow, we will get to see what ESPN is making a big deal out of when Daisuke Matsuzaka will pitch against our Sox. Javier Vazquez will try and continue his recent hot streak another game as he gets the ball for us. Game time is 6:05pm and will be seen on Comcast Sports Net.
